Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Battle Creek, MI, seeks a Maintenance Superintendent to lead safe, reliable, and cost-efficient maintenance across all shifts. You will drive operational excellence through disciplined work processes and cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Engineering, and Reliability teams.

You will set clear safety and reliability expectations, optimize asset availability, and mentor staff toward continuous improvement, with emphasis on proactive maintenance, budget oversight,

Qualifications

• Experience with CMMS systems such as JDE, SAP, Maximo, or similar maintenance management platforms.
• Strong understanding of preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, precision maintenance, and reliability principles.
• Working knowledge of industrial maintenance systems, rotating equipment, fixed equipment, utilities, and process systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Experience interpreting maintenance KPIs, reliability metrics, and operational performance data.
• Understanding planning and scheduling best practices within a manufacturing environment
• 8 to 10 years of Paper Mill Maintenance experience or related
• 6 to 8 years of Maintenance or Engineering experience in Manufacturing

Responsibilities

• Lead maintenance activities with a safety-first mindset and ensure policy compliance.
• Monitor craftsmanship to ensure efficiency and proper use of parts and equipment.
• Review operation progression to minimize break-ins.
• Ensure adherence to precision maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Oversee resource allocation to maximize effectiveness and efficiency.
• Conduct preventive monitoring of the departmental budget to control expenditures and inform forecasts.
• Lead maintenance teams in maintenance, continuous process improvement and process control.
• Schedule work to maximize task completion with minimal plant disruption.
• Commit to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
