Job summary

Barkan Management Company is seeking a qualified Maintenance Superintendent to oversee all maintenance tasks at a Brookline, MA site. This full-time, in-person role reports to the Property Manager and focuses on delivering reliable service and safety for residents and staff.

The position requires hands-on maintenance experience across multiple trades and strong vendor management, organizational, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• At least three years’ experience in various maintenance areas such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building operations.
• Working knowledge of HVAC and boiler systems.
• Self-starter who can assess property needs and follow through to completion.
• Customer service experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance responsibilities and ensure owner satisfaction.
• Supervise and coordinate with third-party vendors and contractors.
• Schedule and perform service responses for timely resolutions.
• Implement preventative maintenance programs for site equipment.
• Supervise HVAC, boiler, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical work.
• Maintain inventories of supplies and materials.
• Inspect building and site regularly and manage tasks with the Property Manager.

Who we need:

Barkan Management Company, a large, well‑established, diversified Property Management Company, is seeking a qualified, motivated, and experiencedMaintenance Superintendentto oversee and effectively manage all maintenance responsibilities. This is a full‑time, in‑person role, located in Brookline, MA.

What you’ll do:

• Fostering a dynamic community environment that assures consistent owner satisfaction and yields outstanding customer service reviews.
• Being a role model for the standards and behaviors consistent with the core values of Barkan.
• Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with residents, employees, and vendors.
• Work as a team with all site personnel. May be required to perform non-maintenance-related tasking as needed and as requested by the Property Manager.
• Scheduling and performing service request responses to ensure satisfactory and timely responses.
• Scheduling, performing, or supervising preventative maintenance programs for all site equipment based on operating manuals and the manufacturer’s recommendations.
• Scheduling, performing, or supervising HVAC, boiler, plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and special projects.
• Maintaining current, accurate inventories of supplies and materials.
• Scheduling, performing, or supervising all site janitorial staff and work.
• Completing daily/weekly building and site inspections; scheduling and or performing all necessary work
• Work with Property Manager on scheduling and supervising 3rd-partyvendors
• Directly reports to the Property Manager

What we’re looking for:

• At least three years’ experience in various maintenance areas, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building operations
• General working knowledge of various HVAC and boiler systems.
• Self-starter with the ability to determine the needs of the property and to follow through to completion.
• Previous customer service experience is a must
• Ability to supervise and direct third‑party vendors and contractors
• Good organizational and planning skills
• General computer knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Positive attitude and outward appearance reflecting the highest qualities of the property.
• Ability to communicate effectively with owners, residents, vendors, and other site staff personnel.
