Job summary

The University of Holy Cross is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Worker to join the Facilities & Operations team. This full-time position maintains, repairs, and improves campus facilities, equipment, and grounds to keep a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting abilities, experience performing a variety of maintenance tasks, and a commitment to workplace safety and customer service.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2–5 years facilities/building maintenance experience preferred.
• Experience with hand and power tools and maintenance equipment.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance issues independently.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, painting, carpentry, and general building maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and repair work on campus buildings and facilities.
• Complete painting, carpentry, plumbing, and basic construction projects.
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment, fixtures, walls, doors, and other facility components.
• Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and supplies for campus events and operational needs.
• Perform routine inspections of campus buildings, grounds, and equipment.
• Maintain campus grounds and assist with outdoor maintenance projects.
• Remove trash and debris from designated areas as needed.
• Ensure all work is completed in compliance with University policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Follow Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards and report safety concerns promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Supervisor.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

• Frequently lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds without assistance and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
• Frequently bend, kneel, squat, climb, and work in confined or hard-to-reach areas.
• Work in various environments, including offices, classrooms, outdoor settings, and moderate-noise workspaces.
• Occasionally work around hazardous materials, chemicals, and waste.
• May be exposed to electrical systems ranging from low voltage up to 480V.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
