Job summary

Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA is seeking a Maintenance Staff member to support day‑to‑day cleaning, sanitizing, and facility upkeep across its YMCA buildings and grounds. You will assist with mopping, dusting, trash removal, and event setup, while helping ensure a safe, clean environment for members and staff.

The role requires flexibility to work varying hours, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Six months or more of related experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
• Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Basic understanding of upkeep and care of equipment.
• Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.

Responsibilities

• Performs cleaning duties such as mopping, dusting, and trash removal.
• May set up furniture for events.
• Operates related motionless and non-motorized cleaning equipment.
• Records and reports all needed repairs; assists with repairs as directed.
• Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and reports hazards to supervisor.
• May assist with window washing, pool cleaning, snow removal, grounds keeping, and other duties as needed.

Job description

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Director, the maintenance staff shall assist in the day-to-day maintenance and housekeeping of the Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA and its facilities. The Maintenance Staff will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal. May complete duties related to window washing, meeting set up, pool cleaning, snow removal, grounds keeping, times of emergencies and other related responsibilities.

Essential Functions

• Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
• Must be able to work varied hours (to include days, evenings, weekends and possibly holidays) depending on operational needs (particularly with severe weather).
• Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
• Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
• Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
• Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
• May set up furniture for events.
• Other duties as required.
