Job summary

Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA is seeking a Maintenance Staff member to support day-to-day upkeep and housekeeping across its facilities. Under the Facilities Director, you will help keep areas clean and safe, perform routine cleaning tasks, and assist with event setup when needed.

You will work varied hours including days, evenings, weekends, and possibly holidays, and operate cleaning equipment. Prior maintenance experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Six months or more of related maintenance experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals and other documents.
• Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
• Basic understanding of upkeep and care of equipment.
• Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.

Responsibilities

• Assists in day-to-day maintenance and housekeeping across the YMCA facilities.
• Cleans and sanitizes assigned areas, including mopping, dusting and trash removal.
• Works varied hours including days, evenings, weekends and possibly holidays.
• Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
• Records and reports all needed repairs and performs repairs as directed.
• Keeps building secure during shift and reports hazards to supervisor.
• Replaces supplies such as soap and towels; may set up furniture for events.
• Performs other duties as required.

Job description

Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Director, the maintenance staff shall assist in the day-to-day maintenance and housekeeping of the Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA and its facilities. The Maintenance Staff will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal. May complete duties related to window washing, meeting set up, pool cleaning, snow removal, grounds keeping, times of emergencies and other related responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.

2. Must be able to work varied hours (to include days, evenings, weekends and possibly holidays) depending on operational needs (particularly with severe weather).

3. Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.

4. Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.

5. Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.

6. Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.

7. May set up furniture for events.

8. Other duties as required.
