Job summary

SEMCOA (Southeast Massachusetts Council on Advocacy) seeks a Maintenance Staff member to support scattered sites in Fall River, with travel to New Bedford and Taunton as needed. The role emphasizes courteous service, safety, and hands-on maintenance.

You will perform daily walkthroughs, respond to requests, handle minor repairs, and ensure facilities meet safety and regulatory standards while supporting housing programs for families and individuals.

Qualifications

  • Must present as courteous and professional at all times.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to perform multiple tasks.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to organize ideas clearly.
  • Proficient with basic computer skills and WorxHub.
  • Ability to work with others in a cooperative and collaborative manner.
  • Understanding of substance use and mental health issues and/or self-help programs.
  • Understanding of boundaries and ethics.
  • Comply with Federal Regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, Substance Abuse Confidentiality Regulations and HIPAA Regulations.
  • Certification in the HPAO approved de-escalation program.

Responsibilities

  • Adherence to HPAO policies and procedures.
  • Conduct daily facility walk-throughs.
  • Respond to all maintenance requests.
  • Maintain facility buildings, grounds and amenities in safe and attractive condition (lawn care, parking lot, entrances, walkways, snow removal).
  • Perform minor electrical, plumbing, HVAC and building repairs.
  • Patch and paint the facility as directed.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment including maintenance, lawn care, housekeeping and floor care.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on refrigeration units and other electrical appliances.
  • Perform minor door alarms and lockset repairs.
  • Conduct all delegated scheduled tests and inspections.
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and meetings.
  • Ensure departmental operations are professional and productive.
  • Conduct weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual inspections.
  • Ensure departmental documentation is accurate and current.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Director of Environmental Services.

Education & Experience: High School diploma or equivalent (GED)

Pay Range: $20-27/hr

Status: Full Time; Monday to Friday 8am-4:30pm

About Us
SEMCOA's (Southeast Massachusetts Council on Advocacy) mission is to advocate for and provide support to individuals, families, and communities in the areas of substance use, mental illness, domestic violence, homelessness, and parenting. SEMCOA operates four emergency assistance congregate family shelters and additional scattered sites that provide supportive services to families and assist them with securing permanent housing. SEMCOA also provides residential recovery home treatment to individuals with substance use disorders, as well as transitional and permanent housing stability and support programs. Our portfolio also includes two graduate sober houses, the Family Preservation Program, as well as Greater Brockton and Greater Attleboro Taunton Healthy Families programs.
Maintenance Staff Requirements

Maintenance Staff Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on all maintenance, lawn care, housekeeping and floor care equipment;
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on all refrigeration units and other electrical appliances;

  • Conduct all delegated scheduled tests and inspections;
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and meetings;
  • Ensure that all departmental operations are conducted in a professional and productive manner;

  • Ensure that all departmental documentation, as required by HPTC/SEMCOA policies and all applicable regulatory bodies (BSAS/DPH, EOHLC, DMH, Joint Commission, etc..) are accurate and current.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Director of Environmental Services to ensure the safe and sanitary operation of the facility.
Maintenance Staff Qualifications
  • Ability to lift 50lbs;
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver's License;
  • Possess knowledge and skills needed to provide maintenance.
