Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Interpret distribution and collection system maps to locate sewer lines, water lines, valves and hydrants, and pump and lift stations.
• Operate wash unit, large dump truck, hydro-vac, tapping machines, water cutter, mini-dump truck and/or TV truck as needed.
• Read basic schematic drawings; vacuum and wash mains; inspect and test hydrants.
• Troubleshoot and perform quality checks; complete work orders and basic forms.
• Requisition parts and supplies; interact with customers.
• Maintain and service water meters and meter boxes; read transmitters with handheld devices.
• Update work orders using laptop workbooks; may read meters with handheld processor.
• On-call 24/7; may supervise others; perform tasks of Maintenance Specialist I as required.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Valid State Vehicle Operator's License

Three years experience as Maintenance Specialist I or related field

Ability to obtain Class 2 Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Certificates within 3 years

Job description

Field Operations assignment will interpret distribution and collection system maps to locate sewer lines, water lines, valves and hydrants, and pump and lift stations. Work may include the operation of the following: wash unit, large dump truck, hydro-vac, tapping machines, water cutter, mini-dump truck and/or TV truck. Reads basic schematic drawings. Vacuums and washes mains. Inspects and performs flow/pressure tests on fire hydrants. Troubleshoots and performs quality checks for finished work. Completes work orders and basic forms. Requisitions parts and supplies. Interacts with customers. May exercise some supervisory functions. Performance of preventive and corrective maintenance on water meters and meter boxes. Work may include installation, exchange, reading, and/or repairing transmitters on water meters using hand held reading processors and updating work orders using laptop workbooks. May be required to read meters using a hand held processor.

All Maintenance Specialist II's will be able to perform any task required of a Maintenance Specialist I employee and may be called upon to do so as required.

Maintains job safety standards (personal protection equipment, etc.); complies with City of Shreveport vehicle safety rules; trains new team members on safe work practices. Regularly attends required safety, job related and certification training classes as required. Subject to be on call 24/7.Performs other duties as assigned or required.

• 1). High School Diploma or GED.
• 2). Valid State Vehicle Operator's License with class applicable to assigned position.
• 3). Three years experience as a Maintenance Specialist I or related field.
• 4).Field Operations assignment - Hold or be able to obtain Class 2 Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Certificates issued by the State of Louisiana, Dept. of Health and Hospitals within 3 years.

Normal Promotion Path from this Class:

Maintenance Specialist III or any higher class for which eligible and qualified

Physical Requirements:

Position may require moderate to extensive stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions, along with some combination of climbing and balancing; may be subject to sitting for prolonged periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Position requires abilities to consistently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment:

Work is performed outdoors with exposure to noise, dirt, grease, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, fumes, animals, insects, chemicals, treated/untreated sewer, treated/untreated water, inclement weather, and machinery with moving parts requiring use of protective devices.
