Job summary

TxDOT in Bonham, TX is seeking a Maintenance Section Assistant to support the Fannin County maintenance team. The role focuses on assisting the supervisor, coordinating crews, equipment, and materials to keep roadways safe and passable.

Work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with on-site operations and a 40-hour week. Requirements include a high school diploma and 6 years of roadway maintenance or related experience, valid driver's license, and CDL or related certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 6 years of roadway maintenance or construction experience.
• Experience can be substituted with related college education or technical training on a year-for-year basis.
• Valid driver’s license; driving a state vehicle.
• Commercial Driver Certificate and CDL required.
• Knowledge of highway/bridge materials and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
• Budgeting methods and procedures.
• Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups.

Responsibilities

• Assist the maintenance section supervisor in overseeing crews and contracted workers.
• Plan, coordinate, and implement emergency response to inclement weather, accidents, and hazardous spills affecting area roadways.
• Schedule equipment, materials and personnel for section projects.
• Train employees on equipment use and procedures.
• Lead daily work assignments and provide updates to the supervisor; approve leave requests to ensure coverage.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
