Essential Duties
- Assists in budget preparation for the section
- Assists in issuing driveway permits and estimating the size of drainage pipes for driveways
- Assists the maintenance section supervisor in overseeing the work of the section and contracted crews including scheduling equipment, material and personnel necessary for section projects
- Assists with planning, coordinating and implementing emergency response to inclement weather, accidents, and hazardous spills affecting area roadways
- Handles public complaints
- Inspects road conditions, work-in-progress and work completed by the crews and contractors
- Leads the work of transportation maintenance crews and support staff
- Responsible for operations of section in absence of supervisor
- Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments, serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members’ career conversations; and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage
- Performs other job duties as assigned. This position requires driving a state vehicle
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School Grad or Equivalent in general education
Experience
6 YEARS of experience in roadway maintenance or construction related work (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent) Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Licenses and Certifications
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection

TxDOT's Austin District is looking for one Maintenance Section Assistant based in Georgetown, Texas. In this role, you will support the Maintenance Section Supervisor by overseeing maintenance crews and contractors, coordinating daily work activities, and maintaining roadway safety standards. The position requires strong leadership skills, the ability to work independently, and readiness to respond to emergency situations as needed. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with experience in transportation maintenance, crew leadership, and operational coordination.
Salary Plan/Grade
Maintenance Section Assistant: A22 ($57,614.00 - $93,138.00/yearly)
