Job summary

Louisiana Department Of Transportation and Development (DOTD) Hammond district seeks a Maintenance Repairer 2 to assist with maintaining and rehabilitating DOTD-owned buildings, facilities, welcome centers, and rest areas. Tasks include carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and minor construction in a hands-on maintenance role in the Hammond area.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, or related operations.
  • Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction or related fields.
  • Twelve semester hours in construction management/engineering or related courses.

Responsibilities

  • Makes general repairs to buildings, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, and systems (HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, electrical).
  • Performs limited appliance repairs and parts replacement.
  • Maintains and repairs motorized equipment and performs tune-ups and component checks.
  • Operates and inspects a wide range of hand tools and powered equipment to support maintenance tasks.
  • Performs general road maintenance tasks.

62/MR2/50694954/8.25.26/TC – Unit 701 Hammond, Louisiana – This position assists with the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of all DOTD-owned buildings, facilities, welcome centers, and rest areas within our district. Maintenance, repairs, and rehabilitation projects may include but are not limited to making new additions and renovating existing facilities, roof repairs and replacements, installation of paneling, laying floor tile, ceramic tile, and ceiling tile, installation of sheetrock, molding, cabinets and countertops, doors/windows, vinyl siding, installation and repair of door locks, and window air conditioning units. Frames new construction and all other related repairs and installations as deemed necessary. Repairs, maintains, and installs new plumbing; removes and replaces all plumbing fixtures including commodes, faucets, urinals, water fountains, sinks, P-traps, supply lines, and cut-off valves. Repairs water lines, sewer lines, and gas lines. Provides minor electrical maintenance to include the following: replaces light fixtures; changes electrical receptacles; installs fans, window units, and heaters; installs electrical flush valves. In this position, you would report to a Maintenance Foreman and would be expected to have carpenter/ plumbing skills.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
  • Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR
  • Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

Job Duties
  • Makes general repairs to buildings, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, air conditioning/heating systems and other mechanical and related fields such as plumbing, carpentry and electrical.
  • Makes limited repairs to appliances, replaces parts and makes adjustments, etc.
  • Makes minor repairs to navigational locks such as replacing hydraulic hoses.
  • Maintains and makes general repairs to a variety of motorized equipment including tune‑ups, replacement and adjustment of worn or damaged parts, (carburetors, generators, alternators, starters, pumps, brake linings/pads, etc.) and limited dis‑assembly of major components (engines, transmissions, final drives, etc.) to determine the extent of damage and repairs necessary.
  • Starts, operates and checks for safety and maintenance of a wide variety of hand held equipment, motorized vehicles, tractors, cotton pickers, combines, hay balers, planters, etc.
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, loading materials, and using hand and power tools.
  • Performs general road maintenance tasks.
Compensation

Position‑Specific Details:

  • Maintenance Repairer 2: Class D, Driver’s License will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for Maintenance Repairer 2 will be$19.69/hour.

Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.
