Maintenance Repair Person - Building & Grounds

Job Summary: To maintain safe, functional, and well-maintained facilities that support student learning, staff needs, and the effective operation of the district.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• HVAC/Refrigeration experience preferred.

Working Conditions: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 260 days per year.

Applicants that are offered positions shall be required to submit to an FBI/BCI criminal background check. Failure to satisfactorily pass the criminal background check based on the discretion of the Board of Education will preclude an individual from employment with the district.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Maintains all aspects of school buildings and grounds including the repair of defective and inoperable mechanical mechanisms by performing maintenance technician level duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Troubleshoots and administers the repair of plumbing, carpentry, electrical and painting of building systems and components.
• Provides a safe and secure school environment.
• Performs snow and ice removal as applicable.
• Performs lawn care including landscaping and mulching.
• Assists custodians with school activities during the day as applicable/required.
• Maintains sporting fields including fence repair.
• Performs roof repair work as applicable.
• Assists in working and setting up sporting events.
• Picks up and delivers supplies, furniture and equipment within the district as applicable.
• Maintains good relationship with contractors, vendors and service personnel.
• Sorts, delivers and collects inter-office mail.
• Assists other school staff members in any reasonable way to ensure safe and efficient operation of the school.
• Assumes responsibility of maintaining up to date knowledge of technology utilized by the district.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with operating motor vehicles and general hand tools is required. Experience with maintenance equipment is required. Prior HVAC/Refrigeration experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read, write and comprehend simple directions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers or members of the school community. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, students and administrators.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Current driver's license is required. License for applying fertilizer is required if applicable. Proper refrigerant; plumbing; Master HVAC; Electrical license preferred but will consider previous experience in one or more of the fields listed.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must possess basic skills in reading, writing and math for the purpose of making necessary measurements, reading of gauges and instruments, mixing chemicals or other related items as applicable. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations that may arise. Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to use computers where applicable. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
