The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is seeking a Maintenance Repairer Master to maintain DOTD facilities, grounds, and equipment in Baton Rouge. The role leads and performs plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and general maintenance tasks across DOTD buildings and sites.

Responsibilities include directing maintenance crews, inspecting work quality, mentoring staff, and assuming supervisory duties when the foreman is unavailable. Promotion or detail to Special Duty possible.

  • Three years of experience or training in building trades or related maintenance.
  • Alternative: two-year vocational program plus one year of related experience.
  • Alternative: twelve semester hours in construction topics plus one year of related experience.

  • Directs Maintenance Repairer 2 and inspects work quality.
  • Mentors staff and ensures resources and safety practices are followed.
  • Supervises in the absence of the Maintenance Foreman and handles administrative tasks.

About This Position:

This position plays an important role in maintaining safe, functional, and well-maintained DOTD facilities, equipment, and grounds. The incumbent leads and performs a variety of maintenance and repair activities, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, building and furniture repairs, grounds maintenance, and equipment operation. The position directs maintenance, custodial, and grounds personnel, coordinates work assignments, monitors equipment, and responds to facility-related needs at DOTD Headquarters and satellite offices.

While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

  • Three years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
  • Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
  • Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.

Job Duties:

  • Performs advanced Journeyman Level Maintenance work in the following areas: Plumbing/Sewer Systems, Minor Electrical Maintenance, General Building and Equipment Maintenance. This includes but not limited to: troubleshooting equipment; installation/repair/preventative maintenance of water and sewer lines; catch basin installation /repair; repair/install plumbing/sewer fixture; and other repairs and installations as deemed necessary to maintain all DOTD owned buildings and facilities.
  • Acts as Lead Worker by directing work and providing guidance of assigned tasks to Maintenance Repairer 2; Inspects and approves quality of work; corrects deficiencies and ensures corrective action is taken.
  • Mentors and assist developing personnel by assisting on skill development and demonstrating proper techniques, procedures, and efficient work practices; Ensures assigned jobs are completed with proper tools, materials, and equipment available; Informs supervisor of job status, challenges and completion in a timely manner.
  • Acts as supervisor in absence of Maintenance Foreman. This involves various administrative tasks including but not limited Monthly Safety Meetings, MV3 for passenger vehicles, completing Work Orders, and Building/Equipment Inspections.

Appointment Type:This position may be filled as a Promotion or Detail to Special Duty.

Compensation: TheMaintenance Repairer Master has a WS-218 pay level and ranges from$21.05 to $37.88 / hr. The incumbent may be required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as maintain the following licensing:

  • Valid Chauffeur’s License (Class “D”) is required at time of appointment. (not possessing a Chauffer’s License (Class D) at the time of hire can be employed and will be notified in writing that documented proof of possession of the necessary Chauffer’sLicense (Class D) must be provided as a condition of employment during the probationary period)
  • Lifting: a minimum lifting capacity of 50 pounds
