Job summary

SSA Marine is seeking a maintenance technician to perform routine and preventative maintenance on equipment used by the company and third parties. The role involves scheduled servicing, record-keeping, and assisting with installation, repair, and general building trades.

The candidate should have a high school diploma, 2–4 years of maintenance experience, and a valid driver’s license. CPR and safety knowledge are preferred; shift work may be required in a terminal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis.
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists and maintains records of maintenance procedures.
  • Assists with installation, maintenance, repair and construction work in basic building maintenance trades.
  • Receives, stores and distributes materials, verifying against purchase orders and delivery docs.
  • Maintains clean and orderly warehouse/terminal and safe disposal areas.
  • Performs weekly safety checks to ensure a safe environment and reduces hazards.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
  • Obtains estimates for supplies and parts; orders parts as needed.
  • Provides input on equipment specifications and evaluates maintenance programs.

Job description

The role is responsible for performing routine and preventative maintenance of the equipment operated by the company. This may include equipment owned or leased by the company and/or equipment owned or leased by third parties.

  • Performs preventive maintenance procedures on company mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
  • Assists and performs with installation, maintenance, repair and construction work in the basic building maintenance trades, such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, locksmith, carpet, and mechanics
  • Performs warehouse and/or terminal duties in connection with receiving, storage and distribution of materials as follows: Receives goods and materials and checks them against purchase orders and delivery documentation to ensure correctness of merchandise and proper condition
  • Responsible for maintaining clean and orderly conditions within the warehouse and/or terminal
  • Perform general grounds keeping on a daily basis; insure disposal areas are kept clean and in a safe condition
  • May perform weekly safety checks throughout the facility to ensure a safe and clean environment for the patrons of the facility and to eliminate all hazards
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
  • Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
  • May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts; orders parts as needed.
  • Provide input to the company regarding specifications of the operational equipment.
  • Evaluate maintenance programs to ensure they are accomplishing the intended objectives.
  • Constantly evaluate new technology as it is applied to equipment utilized by the company.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 2-4 years' experience working in maintenance
  • Journeyman's License as a Millwright preferred
  • Valid CPR certificate required
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Experience with computerized operating systems
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations
  • Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability strongly desired
  • Required to observe all safety and health requirements for container terminal environment.
Work Environment
  • Must be able to work in rotating shifts, days, evenings and nights.
  • Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures of hot and cold, extremely dusty conditions and occasionally, conditions of high levels of noise.
  • The ability to work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment
  • The ability to operate various types of equipment.
