Job summary

LP Building Solutions in Wisconsin seeks a seasoned controls engineer to design, develop, and maintain mill networking and control systems, ensuring continuous operation and integration with IT and suppliers.

You will lead maintenance, improvements, and documentation of schematics and control logic, working with PC networking, PLCs, HMIs, and data acquisition. This role requires NFPA/IEEE/OSHA knowledge and PLC training, with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years electrical experience required.
  • Vocational degree or equivalent with PLC training.
  • Knowledge of NFPA, IEEE, OSHA standards.

Responsibilities

Job Purpose

Perform detailed controls design, development, and maintenance on the mill networking and communication system to ensure continuous operation. Support maintenance personnel on troubleshooting and repair of all network systems. Perform routine maintenance and upgrades on existing equipment. Drive mill improvements through optimization of equipment. Act as an interface between the mill, IT, engineering support and key suppliers.

In This Position You Will Have The Opportunity To
  • Perform all duties in accordance with all safety/quality rules and regulations.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance functions.
  • Troubleshoot electromechanical issues as necessary.
  • Assist in the installation of new equipment and systems
  • Develop and document specifications, plans, prints, schematics, and other necessary documentation required to clearly communicate mill systems.
  • Develop detailed design of automation and process control systems that integrate PCs, PLCs, AC and DC drives, position controllers and networks.
  • Integrate statistical control components into system design including basic control charting, real time and historical trending, remote monitoring, and data acquisition/control.
  • Develop, install, and debug control system programming including PC operating, PC networking, SQL, Access, Excel, PLC, HMI and specialty software.
  • Investigate new equipment applications with consultants and company engineers and suppliers.
  • Lead teams dedicated to mill improvements in efficiency, uptime, and overall throughput.
  • Lead development and training efforts of maintenance personnel in the design features, process operation, interpretation of system information regarding control system functionality.
  • Support Mill with the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues via remote access or on call.
  • Perform other electro-mechanical duties as necessary.

  • Duties may entail working occasionally in confined spaces or elevated heights.
  • Potentially stressful / mentally demanding due to fast-paced nature of the work.
  • Standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, twisting, stooping, squatting, reaching, carrying, balancing, wrist deviation, hand/wrist repetitions, use of either or both hands, pinching, neck flexion and rotation, repetitive foot motion, ability to lift and carry 65 lbs.
  • Able to use appropriate PPE (eye protection, protective clothing, footwear, hearing protection, hard hat, gloves, respirators, fall protection)
