Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; five+ years in heavy industrial maintenance/engineering.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required.
  • Computer skills with MS Office; familiarity with project management software (MS Project) and JD Edwards is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide complete work order packages including scope, specs, safety info, material requirements and logistics.
  • Determine material availability and issue purchase requisitions as needed.
  • Develop and maintain PM work orders and outage planning with supervisors and coordinators.
  • Lead weekly planning meetings to prepare upcoming work schedules and outages.
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors when required and ensure safe, cost-effective execution.

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock
  • Provides complete work order packages for all planned work to include:
  • Scope of work to be performed
  • Pertinent specifications, instructions and safety information such that competent craftsperson can perform the work without questions
  • Expected material requirements, including kitting and delivery/staging instructions
  • Determines availability of materials and resources as required, writing purchase requisitions within the work order package as needed.
  • Tools and equipment required for the job
  • accurate locations of work and materials
  • Required permits (safety, environmental, work process, etc.)
  • Estimates for labor, time, and costs
  • Complete scopes of work for bidding work to contractors for jobs that will be contracted out.
  • Follows maintenance work flow processes for converting identified work (work requests) to “ready to schedule status” work orders (all materials, information, tools, equipment, resources, etc. are available).
  • Develops proper internal coding for material, parts and supplies and updates/creates/maintains appropriate equipment parts list or equipment Bill of Materials (BOM’s).
  • Attends or leads the weekly planning coordination meeting in area of responsibility along with other planners, operations coordinators, and maintenance supervisors to develop the upcoming work schedule and for the area’s next outage or field day based on priority.
  • Assists area maintenance supervisor and operations coordinator in reviewing “ready to schedule” backlog for work to populate the weekly work schedule or upcoming outages/field days.
  • Develops and maintains detailed preventive (PM) work orders for area of responsibility in cooperation with the appropriate maintenance supervisor.
  • Assist operations coordinator in identifying planned or ready to schedule work that can be tasked to shift maintenance when equipment access opportunities arise either through unplanned downtime events or other emergency situations.
  • Develops outage and shutdown work lists and manpower requirements in conjunction with appropriate maintenance supervisors and operations coordinators.
  • Will, on occasion, be responsible for providing supervisory oversight to contractors performing work, either through routine weekly work or during outage/field day activities.
  • Develops and distributes outage work lists 2 weeks prior to start for minor (1 day) field days and 2 months prior for major shutdowns.
  • Assists operations and maintenance supervisors in developing the area timelines for outages, identifying critical path work and incorporating other work within the critical path timeline.
  • Assists operations and maintenance supervisors in coordinating and executing work during outages/field days, and may include supervisory oversight to internal and external labor resources as needed.
  • Work with contractor groups in understanding Scopes of Work (SOW’s) and will, as needed, escort contractor(s) to and around job sites to assure full understanding of the SOW, the work area and other information to assure contractor(s) can submit a complete bid on the job/project.
  • Exerts fiscal responsibility by working with Purchasing Department to secure best quality of service at fair market pricing for external resources, working with area shops to return unused parts/materials to Storeroom or vendors, and assures that parts or equipment marked as repairable are properly evaluated as suitable for repair or advise to purchase new.
What You Need To Succeed
  • Generally, requires a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Technology related field, or five plus years of related professional experience in a heavy industrial environment working with mechanical maintenance or engineering teams.
  • This position also requires excellent communication/negotiation skills.
  • Computer skills are necessary with proficiency in MS Office line of software.
  • Use of project management software, i.e. MS Project 2007 or later, preferred.
  • Experience with work management systems such as JD Edwards software programs a plus.
