They create and assign work orders for maintenance tasks and ensure the right resources (e.g., parts and inventory) are available to get the job done. As key contributors to an efficient asset management program, they establish strong relationships across the organization to avoid departmental silos, communication barriers, and increased downtime. Their goal is to reduce maintenance costs, minimize the maintenance backlog, extend asset life cycle, and increase output.
The Maintenance Planner is accountable for reducing equipment downtime, loss prevention, and related site costs by driving the organization toward a planned proactive state. They develop and use validated procedures, applying skills beyond the technician level to properly plan and coordinate manpower, parts, and materials for their assigned areas of responsibility.
