Job summary

Comstock Park Public Schools is seeking a maintenance worker to keep district properties safe, efficient, and well maintained year-round. This is a part-time, year-round position serving the school community.

Responsibilities include carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, electrical work, equipment testing, blueprint reading, and on-call support as needed. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, ability to lift 20-100 pounds, and reliable attendance.

  • Experience with maintenance across multiple trades preferred.

  • Perform carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, roof repairs, wiring and electrical work.
  • Maintain safety and code compliance for all facilities.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and equipment testing as needed.
  • Be available for on-call maintenance and respond to incidents.
  • Order and track materials and labor related to tasks.

Job Description

Comstock Park is seeking candidates who display a strong desire and ability to make an impact on students and the greater community both within and outside of the classroom.

SUMMARY:

Maintenance of all properties owned by the Comstock Park Public Schools in a safe, efficient and economical manner. This is a year round part time position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs the following services in a safe, efficient manner:
    • Carpentry
    • Plumbing
    • HVAC
    • Roof repairs
    • Hardware
    • Wiring and electrical
    • Motors and switches
  • Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local and Board of Education guidelines
  • Repairs and maintains all types of air conditioning and refrigeration units, within guidelines of E.P.A.
  • Repairs and maintains gas, hot water, boilers and hot air furnace
  • Repairs and maintains air handlers, ventilators, cooling coils and radiators along with other mechanical heating and ventilating equipment
  • Familiar with B.M.N. and D.D.C. operator controls for HVAC
  • Monitors and coordinates control panels and thermostats of all systems to maintain standard working temperature.
  • Performs regular preventive maintenance and boiler water treatment programs for all heating and air conditioning equipment
  • Install and tests new equipment
  • Ability to read and understand District blueprints and specifications books, along with "As Built" drawings and updating of these documents
  • Maintain records of testing and monitoring
  • Determine what is needed to complete tasks while skillfully and efficiently using time and resources to execute those tasks
  • Assist with snow removal and salt applications during inclement weather
  • May be required to be on 24-hour call
  • Accurately orders and accounts for material and labor relation to assignments
  • Is able to determine what is needed to complete assigned tasks and skillfully and efficiently uses time and resources to execute those tasks
  • Is available for any work assignment as deemed necessary to resolve maintenance and/or operational problems within the District
  • Possesses knowledge of safe work habits and practices same
  • Reports to the proper authority any unsafe or dangerous conditions existing on school properties or within the buildings and any irregular use of buildings and grounds
  • Opens school buildings by unlocking doors, disarming the alarm systems, turning on lights, etc.
  • Accurately orders and accounts for material and labor relative to assignments
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance and Operations
EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physically able to lift 20-100 pounds; strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing; lifting and carrying; stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching; work outside and inside; work around moving objects; work on ladders and scaffolding; ability to operate a motor vehicle.

COMPENSATION:

Compensation and benefits in accordance with the Comstock Park Educational Employees Association Educational Support Personnel Contract.

The noise level in the work environment is quiet to moderate. Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors.
