City of Des Plaines seeks a candidate with a high school diploma or GED, 1–2 years of maintenance experience, and a valid driver’s license. Be prepared to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays during emergencies, and operate

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years general maintenance, construction, or utility experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license; must obtain Class A CDL with Airbrake, Fifth Wheel, and Tanker within 120 days of hire.
• Willing to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays during emergencies.
• Comfort using power tools and heavy equipment; able to follow directions and communicate well.

Responsibilities

• Street & Grounds Work: Fix sidewalks, curbs, and streets; remove snow; paint pavement markings; clean graffiti; maintain landscaping.
• Building Maintenance: Perform carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and custodial tasks.
• Water & Sewer Systems: Install and maintain water mains, hydrants, catch basins, and sewer lines; address water issues.
• Emergency Response: Respond to water main breaks, floods, and other emergencies day or night.
• Equipment Operation: Drive dump trucks and operate skid steers, loaders, and power tools; perform basic maintenance.
