ChristianaCare is seeking a full-time Maintenance Mechanic III in Newark, Delaware to provide a safe, compliant and continuous operation of healthcare facilities’ physical infrastructure and mechanical systems.

The role requires a high school diploma and five years of practical mechanical experience, with duties including preventative maintenance, emergency response, and coordination with Tradespersons. Evening shift 3p–11:30p; safety-focused environment.

ChristianaCare is looking for a full-time Maintenance Mechanic III in Newark, Delaware to provide a safe, compliant and continuous operation of healthcare facilities physical infrastructure and mechanical systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintains and repairs Minor -portable patient equipment (i.e. wheelchairs, IV poles, stretchers, and all types of beds, Minor HVAC/Plumbing repairs, Minor electrical repairs, Pneumatic tube oversight also performs building maintenance tasks (i.e. hanging pictures, repairing and replacing ceiling tiles, floor tiles, cove base, light bulbs, repairing cabinetry and mounting signs).
• Performs preventative maintenance inspections and takes readings on various building systems.
• Responds to emergency situations such as but not limited to power failures, fire alarms to restore equipment, elevator entrapments, and water events.
• Audits contractors and permits (to include but are not limited to Above Ceiling Inspections, ICRA/PCRA inspections).
• Reviews, audits, and install firestopping systems.
• Respond to calls promptly and triage work to Tradespersons as needed.
• Utilize CMMS system for documenting, managing, and communicating all maintenance activities including corrective, preventative and emergency work.
• Perform light welding and metal work as necessary.
• Takes responsibility for maintaining clean and safe work areas at all times.
• Follows all applicable safety procedures in the performance of job responsibilities.
• Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
• Performs other related duties as required

Hours: Evening - 3p - 11:30p (may be required to work rotating shifts based on departments needs)

Education and Experience Requirements

High School graduate or equivalent.

Five years practical mechanical experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Hospital experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements

Knowledge of CCHS policies and procedures

Prioritize workload and solve problems independently

Knowledge of procedures prescribed by shop and vendor manuals

Skill in solving mechanical and analytical problems

Skill in oral and written communication

Skill in operating all types of hand and power tools and electrical test equipment (i.e. screwdrivers, pliers, pipe wrenches, drills, saws, grinders, etc.)

Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems

Must be able to hear and orally communicate on the telephone and two-way radio system

Physical demands

Walking, lifting, bending/stooping, reaching, and climbing.

Working conditions

Exposure to oils, grease, chemical fumes, dust, heat and noise.

This position has a starting rate of $31.16 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $36.50 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $38.28 per hour.This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
