Job summary

The Springfield Housing Authority is hiring a Mechanic III to perform maintenance and repair tasks across buildings, apartments, grounds, and equipment. You will work under supervision and participate in on-call duties including snow removal. Valid driver’s license required.

Rate is $25.17 per hour for a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. Excellent benefits package is included. Applications must be received by April 7th, 2026.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of building maintenance.
• Ability to read and understand written instructions.
• Ability to follow oral instructions.
• Ability to deal effectively with other co-workers and tenants.
• Ability to use and operate hand and power tools.
• Ability to prepare work orders and time sheets.
• Ability to work in hazardous and adverse conditions such as infested places, snow, rain, heat, cold, cramped quarters and high places.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, kneel, squat, bend, stoop, climb ladders and steps, crawl, stand/ walk up to 8 hours per day, operate tools and machinery.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks on buildings, apartments, grounds, and equipment.
• Works under supervision of an employee of higher grade who assigns duties and reviews work effectiveness and conformance to instructions.
• Mandatory snow removal and other on-call duties.
