To be eligible for a sign-on bonus, the candidate must not have worked as a probationary, permanent, or time-limited employee in the last 12 months as an employee subject to the State Human Resources Act.

This Maintenance/Construction Technician II position is located at Bertie Correctional Institution. The primary purpose of this position is to train and supervise offenders in the installation, necessary preventative maintenance, and repair and regular maintenance of plant assets and systems to proper specifications and codes. This position supports basic operational maintenance and construction needs at the facility.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

• Documented working knowledge of commercial/industrial maintenance.
• High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification may require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision.

The Division of Institutions is one of the divisions in DAC and employs a variety of staff, operates 56 institutions and is responsible for the care and custody of approximately 30,000 incarcerated individuals across North Carolina. Our division categorizes the institutions into 3 custody levels, which include minimum, medium, and close.
