Job Summary

Overview:
The Maintenance Mechanic performs maintenance of mechanical equipment and/or operates heavy equipment associated with the operation of a fossil fuel power plant. This is an entry level developmental position which receives technical guidance, training and assignments from higher level maintenance mechanics and supervisors. This role pays starting at $39.69 per hour and is eligible for Medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and family members.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Maintain mechanical equipment.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment.
• Troubleshoot equipment and develop solutions to operational or performance issues.
• Maintain distributed control systems.
• Follow safety policies and procedures, including LOTO, chemical handling, heavy equipment, rotating machinery, confined spaces.
• Perform maintenance, repair, and installation of rotating equipment such as pumps, turbines, generators, fans, bearings, etc.
• Knowledge of heat recovery steam generators, piping systems, and lubrication systems.
• Skills in pipefitting, welding, machining, rigging, rotating machine repair, fabrication, and machine alignment.
• Locate, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical defects.
• Support startup of major equipment like turbines, compressors, pumps, motors.
• Seek opportunities for innovation and efficiency.
• Physical requirements include standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in adverse weather conditions.
• Work outdoors in heat, cold, and noisy environments, and in confined spaces as needed.
• Use of computers, tools, and safety equipment.
• Work at heights and in confined spaces, passing respirator fit tests.
• Wear personal protective equipment as required.
• Respond to call-out maintenance and alarms.
• Perform first aid and CPR as needed.
• Work overtime as required.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Ability to read and interpret safety and operational documents.
• Good communication skills and team orientation.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Preferred: experience with shop tools, welding, heavy equipment operation.
