Job Objective:
Under the management of the Director of Engineering/Facilities Services, the Maintenance Mechanic II performs skilled trades and specialized duties related to maintenance and repairs of building systems and equipment, including electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, carpentry, welding, HVAC, and more, to support the engineering department's objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Routine Maintenance of Campus Facilities: Diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing equipment and systems, operating and testing mechanical and electrical systems, dismantling malfunctioning systems, making rounds, performing electrical wiring, maintaining refrigeration systems, performing structural repairs, and maintaining logs.
- Preventative Maintenance: Operating and inspecting boilers and related systems, maintaining chemical and operational logs.
- Computer/Customer Support: Operating energy management systems, maintaining records, assisting with work orders.
Non-Essential Duties:
- Maintaining lighting, cabinetry, plumbing fixtures, and cleaning work areas.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of hand tools, electrical materials, emergency power systems, wiring codes, and HVAC systems.
- Ability to operate basic hand and power tools, read and write English, follow diagrams and blueprints, and work cooperatively.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma.
- 5 years' experience in building maintenance and at least 1 year in trades such as electrician, plumber, carpentry, etc.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Refrigeration - EPA and CFC Certification preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Work in high temperature, noisy, dusty environments, often in tight spaces, with potential exposure to chemicals, blood-borne pathogens, and TB, lifting up to 50 lbs, working from ladders.
