Position Details

Department: Maintenance

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Senior Facilities Manager

Starting Pay: $22.00/Hour

Position Description

Under general supervision, the Maintenance Mechanic II is responsible for making a variety of repairs to Zoo & Aquarium infrastructure and systems, including duties such as painting and building basic structures for staff, guests, and animals.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions
  • 70% - Perform general maintenance on Zoo & Aquarium buildings, animal exhibits, and guest areas, including repairs, painting, and basic construction.
  • 20% - Assist with work orders related to mechanical trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, HVAC, etc.
  • 5% - Support preventive maintenance programs.
  • 5% - Assist with snow removal during winter months.

*Additional duties or projects may be assigned as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education & Training: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of general maintenance or carpentry experience preferred; familiarity with power tools and maintenance equipment.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds and mobility to ensure safety.
  • Stamina to stand for extended periods, climb, bend, and stoop.
  • Flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings, in all weather conditions.
  • Pass background and drug screenings.
