Amarillo College seeks a Maintenance Mechanic I – Locksmith to perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of campus facilities and building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmithing and sign fabrication.
The role supports safe and efficient operation through preventive maintenance, on-call rotations, and adherence to safety codes and AC standards.

This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Maintenance Mechanic I - Locksmith who will be all-in on our mission and who will perform work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of campus facilities and building systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmithing, sign fabrication, and general mechanical equipment. This position supports the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of college facilities through preventive maintenance, timely corrective repairs, and assistance with renovation and improvement projects. The Maintenance Mechanic I ensures work is completed in accordance with applicable codes, safety standards, and Amarillo College service expectations.
Required: High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred: Associates Degree.
Required: Two (2) years of experience in maintenance and repair.
Preferred: Four (4) years of journeyman-level experience.
Required: Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with a minimum three (3) year safe driving record.
Preferred: Locksmithing certification/experience.
Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.
Pay grade: 7 Amarillo College Pay Grades (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, reach, pull, push, and use hands to finger, handle or feel. Must be comfortable with working in small confined spaces as required as well as working in a variety of inclement weather and climatic conditions. Must be able to stand on or in wet areas to clean clogged lines and fixtures as well as withstand odors typically occurring with clogged fixtures and pipelines. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull and maneuver objects up to 30 (thirty) pounds and maneuver heavier objects with assistance of others and/or appropriate equipment.
Working Conditions: Required to work a flexible schedule "on call emergency maintenance" on a rotating schedule which includes after hours, weekends, and holidays, and overtime if necessary.
This position operates in various office/campus facilities location in addition to indoor and outdoor environments. During the performance of this position, the employee may be exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards as well as working in a variety of inclement weather and climatic conditions.
