Job summary

Maintenance Mechanic at the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge Complex in Rockland, Maine, performing construction, repair, maintenance, and equipment operation to support refuge facilities, infrastructure, vehicles, and land management.

You will use a range of trade skills, tools, boats, and heavy equipment to keep buildings, systems, and grounds safe and functional, with emphasis on safety, accuracy, and efficiency in daily tasks and records.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform maintenance and repairs across electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating/cooling, welding, and painting.
• Experience operating watercraft and heavy equipment with safety knowledge.
• Ability to follow drawings or blueprints and use common tools.

Responsibilities

• Operate watercraft and safely operate motor boats as needed.
• Maintain and repair buildings and facilities using electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating/cooling, welding, painting, and structural improvements.
• Service and repair vehicles, heavy equipment, and machines with diagnostics and preventative maintenance.
• Lead safe work practices, train others, and maintain detailed maintenance records.
• Assist with habitat restoration, land, and facility operations, including water control structures and signage.
