Job summary

Bollinger Mississippi Shipbuilding, LLC is seeking a maintenance mechanic to inspect, repair and maintain industrial machinery and equipment at our Pascagoula shipyard. You will diagnose malfunctions, overhaul engines and components, and ensure safe operation of forklifts and related industrial equipment.

Knowledge of gas and diesel engines and electrical/electronic components is preferred. Prior shipyard or industrial maintenance experience is advantageous; equal opportunity employer

Qualifications

• Knowledge of gas and diesel engines and electrical aspects of engines.
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems is a plus.
• Prior maintenance experience in industrial or shipyard settings is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, repairs and maintains automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery (forklifts, front-end loaders, cherry pickers).
• Inspects defective equipment and diagnoses malfunctions using analyzers, gauges and manuals.
• Disassembles and overhauls engines, pumps, generators, transmissions and other components.
• Adjusts brakes, aligns wheels, tightens bolts and reassembles equipment.
• Operates equipment to test its functioning.
• Performs oil changes, battery checks, tire repairs and lubrication.
• Performs tag out or lock out procedures on equipment in the yard.

Job description

GENERAL FUNCTION

Inspects, repairs and maintains functional automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery such as forklifts, front-end loaders and cherry pickers along with that of electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment. When repairs to electronic components are done following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints and other specifications.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains service records on vehicles and equipment.
• Inspects, repairs and maintains functional parts of automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as forklifts, front-end loaders and cherry pickers.
• Inspects defective equipment and diagnoses malfunctions using analyzers, pressure gauges, chassis charts and factory manuals.
• Disassembles and overhauls engines, pumps, pump power units, generators, transmissions, clutches and rear ends, using hand tools and hoist.
• Adjusts brakes, aligns wheels, tightens bolts and screws, and reassembles equipment.
• Operate equipment to test its functioning.
• Changes oil, checks batteries, repair tires and tubes and lubricates equipment and machinery.
• Performs "tag out" or "lock out" procedures on equipment in the yard.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Knowledge of gas and diesel engines, electrical aspects of engines and hydraulic and pneumatic systems is preferred.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING

Prior work experience as a maintenance mechanic in an industrial or shipyard environment is preferred.
