Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Dayton, NJ is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to support 3rd shift operations. You will troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, write and follow safety procedures, and train others in safe operation.

PLC programming and diagnostic skills are required, with a high degree of precision and the ability to work overtime as needed. The role offers a starting pay range of $35.39 to $40.31 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package

Qualifications

• Must be educationally certified through a tech or trade school beyond High School.
• Proven experience in electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields.
• Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and diagnostic instruments.
• Willing to work any shift and overtime as required.
• Computer experience and PLC programming are necessary.
• High precision with minimum tolerances; ability to climb in overhead structures.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical/electronic equipment.
• Plans and applies electrical codes and safety procedures in operation and maintenance.
• Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment following safety procedures.
• Advises operators on safe operation and requirements for equipment.
• Maintains maintenance records for identified equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance as directed.
• Assists and trains other maintenance/technical staff.
• Performs other duties as required.

Maintenance Mechanic - Dayton, NJ

Shift: 3rd Shift

Pay: $35.39/hr

How you will impact WestRock

• Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical/electronic equipment including but not limited to programmable controls, numeral controls, power supplies, drives, gages and test equipment.
• Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
• Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements.
• Advises operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components.
• Informs appropriate management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved.
• Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.
• Assists maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.
• Assists and trains other maintenance and/or other technical level employees.
• Performs other duties as required.

What you will need to succeed

• Must be educationally certified through a tech or trade school beyond High School
• Must be highly safety conscious.
• Proven experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields are required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.
• A thorough knowledge of electrical/ electronic components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
• Willing to work any shift and overtime as required.
• Computer experience/operation and PLC programming are necessary.
• High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required.
• Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work.

Physical Requirements

• The employee is frequently required to walk, occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to twenty (20) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to fifty (50) pounds.
• May on occasion have to work long hours and overtime during emergencies, weekends, holidays, planned major equipment outages, etc.

The starting range is $35.39/hr-$40.31/hr depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 5 days of paid vacation will be granted after 1 year of service, and 12 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your actual pay will be based on your work location and other factors, such as your skills, experience, and education.
