Job summary

Nucor Steel West Virginia LLC in Apple Grove, WV is seeking an experienced maintenance technician to repair, install, and tune complex steel production machinery. You will work with hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication systems, and piping, using blueprints and schematics to ensure safe, reliable operation.

Responsibilities include preventive and corrective maintenance, updating CMMS with repairs, and collaborating on plant improvements.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of maintenance on hydraulics, pneumatics, and related systems in steel mills.
• Experience inspecting and repairing conveyors, rollers, pumps, and drive shafts in hot mill/melt shop.
• Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics and update maintenance schedules (Oracle/DataStream).

Responsibilities

• Repair, install, adjust, and maintain industrial steel production machinery per blueprints.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on hydraulics, pneumatics, and lubrication systems.
• Review schematics and operate AutoCAD-based drawings for plant systems.
• Generate work orders, document repairs, and update maintenance schedule.
• Train teammates on equipment features and modifications.
• Work weekends, holidays, overtime; travel as needed (5%).

Basic Job Functions:

Repair, install, adjust, and maintain industrial steel production and processing machinery, hydraulic, pneumatic and water piping distribution systems using blueprints and manuals. Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on hydraulics/pneumatics, centralized lubrication systems, alignments, power transmission, and pumps/piping in a steel hot mill and/or melt shop. Install, dismantle, or move machinery and heavy equipment according to plans. Perform mechanical troubleshooting and periodic maintenance on equipment. Check Conveyor belt splice for delamination and cracks and repair using mechanical splice or hot vulcanize splice. Replace rollers, conveyors, belts, and drive shafts used in raw material handling systems containing alloys and DRI. Check fluid levels and repair Directional Control Valves (DCV), and Hydraulic/pneumatic cylinders. Test equipment to determine optimal performance of all pressure and relief systems are maintained. Review mechanical and electrical schematics for core plant systems, including compressors, gearboxes, motors, ID and FD Fans, pumps, and vessels using AutoCad and/or Auto ISO. Generated work orders, document repairs, order requisitions, and update Plant Maintenance schedule utilizing Oracle or DataStream computerized maintenance management systems. Cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, or assemble new equipment. Propose and implement innovative solutions to challenges in the steel making process with a focus on safety, reliability, quality, costs, and project management. Train teammates on the features and functions of new equipment and/or modifications to existing equipment. Demonstrate the ability to understand mechanical and electrical schematics. Work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, scheduled and unscheduled overtime. 5% travel required to attend meetings and trainings (domestic and international).

Compensation $73,757.00 – 143,000.00 per year. (Position is an hourly position and eligible for a production bonus and profit-share)

Minimum Qualifications:

• Two years of experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance on hydraulics, pneumatics, centralized lubrication systems, alignments, power transmission, and pumps/piping in a steel hot mill and/or meltshop.
• Must have experience in: Repairing, installing, adjusting, and maintaining industrial steel production and processing machinery, hydraulic, pneumatic and water piping distribution systems using blueprints and manuals. Replacing rollers, conveyors, belts, and drive shafts used in Raw material handling systems containing alloys and DRI. Reviewing mechanical and electrical schematics for core plant systems, including compressors, gearboxes, motors, ID and FD Fans, pumps, and vessels using AutoCad and/or Auto ISO. Checking fluid levels and repairing Directional Control Valves (DCV), and Hydraulic/pneumatic cylinders. Generated work orders, document repairs, order requisitions, and update Plant Maintenance schedule utilizing Oracle or DataStream computerized maintenance management systems.
