John Soules Foods, based in Tyler, TX, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to support the production floor with routine upkeep of machinery and facilities. You will identify defects and report them to supervision, and perform scheduled preventative maintenance to ensure safe, efficient operations.

The role requires 3 years in industrial maintenance, experience with 480V 3-phase electrical equipment, and the ability to work overtime as needed.

Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance tasks to support the production floor and overall facility operations. This role ensures all machinery, equipment, and work areas are maintained in good working order and comply with safety standards. The technician identifies and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor and performs scheduled preventative maintenance on machinery, building systems, and facility grounds as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

• High school or tech school education and 3 years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment.
• Experience with 480v 3 phase electrical equipment.
• Ability to perform general maintenance tasks directed or assigned by the supervisor.
• Familiar with hand tools and power tools, common in maintenance work.
• Willing to work overtime, including weekends as needed, and must have excellent attendance and good communication skills, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment consisting of JSF employees and outside contractors.
• Understanding of Lockout/tagout procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
• Experience performing preventive maintenance procedures.
• Technical school certification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance, a strong focus and ability to work in a team-oriented environment, and the ability to learn multiple tasks.
• Self-motivated, strong time management and organizational skills.
• 480v 3 Phase and 24v DC controls equipment troubleshooting.
• Ability to replace electrical motors and VFDs.

Work Environment

The Maintenance Tech job takes place primarily on the production floor or maintenance shop, which involves a fast-paced setting, requires flexibility and the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain focus, and work efficiently as part of the team, feeling comfortable working in a team environment consisting of JSF employees and outside contractors. Handling frequently power tools or hand tools, exposure to cold, wet environment (40F – 45F) while performing tasks, being frequently exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, and moderate noise levels, frequent moving equipment, moving traffic and dry/wet areas, wearing PPE all the time to follow the company’s Safety and Food Safety Polices. Lock out/tagout devices when needed.

Physical Demands

Employees must be able to stand, walk, squat, and stop for long periods (8+ hours). Climbing ladders is required. Use their hands for tasks, reach with their arms, and communicate verbally. Ability to move objects up to 100 lbs. if necessary, moderate to heavy physical effort, ability to bend, lift, and twist repeatedly. Close, distance, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
