Job summary

Savage is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to service and repair heavy equipment at our Port Arthur facility. The role requires performing inspections, maintaining pumps, motors, hydraulics, and crane-related systems while upholding strict safety and regulatory standards.

You will work with site personnel to ensure reliable operations, daily maintenance tasks, and timely documentation of service records.

Qualifications

  • At least 3–5+ years of heavy equipment maintenance and repair experience.
  • Experience repairing and maintaining bridge cranes and coke cutting equipment.
  • Knowledge of welding and cutting processes.
  • Able to work at heights up to 150 feet.
  • Strong mechanical background with safety focus.
  • Refinery/industrial plant operations experience preferred for high safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Follow site-specific safety procedures and the Savage Maintenance Program.
  • Perform pre/post shift equipment inspections and report findings.
  • Maintain and report spare parts inventory.
  • Repair and maintain pumps, motors, hydraulics, and plant equipment.
  • Complete PM services on plant and process equipment.
  • Maintain clean work areas and good communication with team and management.
  • Record maintenance reports and service records.
  • Willing to perform any other special tasks as assigned by management.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Practice and abide by site-specific and company safety procedures and rules
  • Must understand and implement the Savage Maintenance Program
  • Perform a pre/post shift equipment inspections
  • Maintain and report spare parts inventory
  • Properly record and complete maintenance reports and service records
  • Repair and maintain pumps, motors, hydraulics, mobile and plant specific equipment
  • Maintain good relations and open communication with coworkers and management via radio and other proper means
  • Maintain a clean work environment by removing trash and debris from all areas of responsibility including structures, offices, restrooms, break rooms, vehicles, etc.
  • Complete PM services on plant and process equipment
  • Knowledge of rigging
  • Must be willing to perform any other special tasks assigned by management
Requirements To Be Successful
  • Experience with repairing and maintaining bridge cranes and coke cutting equipment
  • At least 3-5+ years of experience with heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge and working experience with different types of welding and cutting.
  • Must be able to periodically work at heights of up to but not limited to 150’.
  • Practices and understands time management, is a self-starter with a positive outlook.
  • Must have a strong mechanical background.
  • Refinery or Industrial Plant Operations: experience with high safety standards and regulations associated with hazardous industrial plant environments.
  • Experience with hydraulic operated hoist and drilling equipment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Boiler maker skills a plus
  • Knowledge of SAP {CMMS)
  • Experience with automated equipment and basic computers are a plus.
  • Additional experience operating back hoe, front end loader, dozer, or other heavy equipment is a plus.
Some Physical Requirements And Working Conditions
  • Ability to work outside in any weather condition
  • Must be willing to work a rotating schedule
  • Work in an environment containing coal dust, hazardous noise, confined space, and in hot or cold environments
  • Work at heights, climbing stairs, and climbing ladders
  • Walk on uneven ground and up to 3 miles per shift
  • Must have ability to wear required PPR
  • Must be able to pass a fit test and pulmonary function test for the purposes of wearing a respirator and recertify annually or as needed
  • Lift up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Must be able to periodically work at heights of up to but not limited to 150’
