- SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
- To maintain all mechanical equipment throughout the port facility and perform duties to maintain,
repair, and upgrade all equipment, vehicles and machines used by Port employees.
- DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
- Service and repair all port equipment including pickups forklifts, cranes, manlifts, loaders,
conveyor belt systems, mechanical motor drives, gearboxes etc.
Diagnose and troubleshoot technical and functional problems with equipment for repairs.
Work under the direction of a designated supervisor in a cooperative flexible team environment.
Service both gasoline and diesel motors.
Service equipment in conjunction with the work order system and monitor and inspect
equipment for proper function and safe operations.
Must have a general knowledge or be willing to operate all equipment (forklifts, loaders, cranes,
manlifts, conveyors, etc).
Perform rigging for equipment component lifting and disassembly/assembly.
Design and fabricate components using ac/dc welding and acetylene torch cutting equipment.
Must be able to use hydraulic press, hydraulic hose machine, tire changer and balancer.
Set up materials and equipment appropriate for special projects and complete activities as time
permits or as priority is established for the project.
Must be able to understand work orders, read equipment maintenance manuals and schematics,
create work orders when needed, and complete work orders as needed.
Must be able to wear and use the following safety equipment: respirators, safety glasses, safety
shoes, hearing protection, safety vest, flotation vest and other equipment as needed.
Must be able to operate all types of machinery (forklifts, front end loaders, back hoes, manlifts,
conveyors, cranes, and other equipment as needed).

Must be willing to obey all port safety and environmental regulations and ensure internal and
external customer service is a priority.
Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments as needed.
- PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Ability to operate maintenance and machine shop equipment such as: hand and power tools and
machinery, equipment lifts, cranes and winches, conveyors, presses, drills, welding equipment,
grinders, tire-changing machine, parts cleaners, steam and pressure cleaners, etc.
Comprehensive knowledge regarding equipment preventative and corrective maintenance
required.
The ability and desire to learn and receive training is required.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Must have strong project management skills and a high level of safety consciousness.
Must practice basic leadership principles and skills such as: coaching, time management, conflict
resolution, communications, and problem solving.
Must also be willing and available to work overtime outside of normal business hours and on
weekends as needed.
Must have a valid drivers license and meet TWIC security requirements.
- WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Strenuous physical demands are required to safely perform job duties and operate machinery and tools.
Frequently exposed to dirt, dust, grease, noise, and hot and cold seasonal weather. Must be capable of
standing for extended periods of time, bending routin ly, working in confined spaces with limited
access, and working in awkward body positions. Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
Requires moderate physical ability to climb to heights up to 100 feet, occasionally. Must be able to
wear PPE appropriate to the job being performed, i.e. welding helmet, respirator, etc.
