General Information & Responsibilities
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and painting maintenance.
Description of Duties
Description Of Essential Duties
- Obtains general instructions from Assistant Facilities Superintendent and proceeds with work assignments under minimal or no supervision. Proceeds with daily duties in absence of the Assistant Facilities Superintendent.
- Daily readings and maintaining equipment related to the Building Automation System (BAS) and reports deficiencies.
- Responsible for performing work within established written and practiced operating procedures; provides feedback to the Assistant Facilities Superintendent.
- Responsible for routine and scheduled preventative maintenance assignments that include but are not limited to the following: boilers, chiller, air handling equipment, pumps, fans, motors, lighting, furniture repairs, plumbing, etc.
- Responsible for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs of equipment as needed.
- Maintains and installs electrical systems using 120 to 227 circuits.
- Keeps close watch on mechanical equipment in all areas of the shift and makes repairs as required.
- Performs miscellaneous building maintenance assignments on the interior and exterior of buildings as directed.
- Completes written logs regarding maintenance and repair for all areas of work.
- Maintains, safeguards, and keeps a neat and orderly college owned tools, stockroom, and work area.
- Prepares written reports regarding any unusual sights or happenings observed during the shift which may affect the safety of people, buildings, and/or their contents.
- Responsible for following all federal, state, local, and departmental safety regulations.
- Assist with snow removal and grounds as needed.
- Attends required trainings as needed.
- Maintains satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
Description Of Other Duties
- Responsible for complete understanding of the operation of the Building Automation System (BAS) and interprets logs and signals into understandable maintenance assignments; maintains and installs new controllers; reprograms, troubleshoots and diagnoses problems within the system; responsible for day-to-day maintenance of the server; orders, stocks, and replaces any necessary component(s).
- Follows and enforces procedures for the protection of College property and employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Principal Working Relationships
- Works directly with the Assistant Facilities Superintendent and Director of Facilities.
- Works cooperatively with all facilities staff to ensure assignments are coordinated and implementation of the total program may be accomplished.
- Works cooperatively with outside agencies, contracts, and vendors.
Education & Experience
(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.)
- High School diploma or recognized equivalent required. Completion of courses in electrical or mechanical technology, community college and/or trade school background preferred.
- Building maintenance or trade experience is required with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience required.
- Must be completely dependable and neat in personal appearance and have the ability and willingness to follow instructions.
- Must be alert at all times and able to react calmly in an emergency.
- Mechanical background and interest are essential.
- Must be able to communicate well with people from all walks of life.
- Skilled in the use of tools and equipment is mandatory.
- Hands-on background in plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, HVAC, and electrical work.
- Valid driver’s license required.
