Maintenance Mechanic

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor Department: Maintenance Location: Jacksonville Facility

Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and improvement activities on manufacturing equipment, facility systems, utilities, and infrastructure. This position supports uninterrupted production operations by ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

The Maintenance Mechanic works closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance leadership to diagnose equipment failures, perform repairs, complete scheduled maintenance activities, and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance and Repair
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues affecting production equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions and implement effective repairs to restore operational performance.
  • Disassemble, repair, replace, and reassemble machine components as required.
  • Monitor equipment condition and recommend repairs or upgrades to improve reliability and performance.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and maintenance emergencies in a timely manner.
Preventive Maintenance
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities in accordance with established procedures and maintenance schedules.
  • Complete inspections, lubrication, adjustments, cleaning, and replacement of worn components.
  • Document all preventive maintenance activities accurately and completely.
  • Identify potential equipment concerns before failures occur.
  • Recommend improvements to maintenance programs and equipment reliability strategies.
Facility and Building Maintenance
  • Perform maintenance activities on facility infrastructure, including doors, lighting, plumbing systems, compressed air systems, HVAC support equipment, and building structures.
  • Support facility improvement projects and equipment installation activities.
  • Assist with maintenance of grounds, utilities, and support systems as required.
  • Ensure work areas and facility assets remain safe and operational.
Safety and Environmental Compliance
  • Follow all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements and company policies.
  • Comply with Lockout/Tagout, confined space, electrical safety, welding safety, compressed gas, and machine safety procedures.
  • Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a safe work environment and promptly report safety concerns.
  • Participate in incident investigations and corrective action activities as needed.
  • Follow proper handling and storage requirements for hazardous materials and chemicals.
Welding and Fabrication
  • Perform basic welding, cutting, grinding, fabrication, and modification work as required.
  • Repair equipment guards, supports, brackets, fixtures, and related maintenance items.
  • Ensure welding and cutting activities are completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.
Material Handling and Equipment Operation
  • Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other approved equipment following certification requirements.
  • Safely move equipment, parts, tooling, and materials throughout the facility.
  • Complete equipment inspections prior to use and report deficiencies.
  • Follow battery charging and equipment operation requirements.
Documentation and Compliance
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, and repair documentation.
  • Ensure maintenance activities comply with established maintenance procedures and quality requirements.
  • Support equipment history tracking and maintenance reporting activities.
  • Document repairs, corrective actions, and equipment modifications accurately.
Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.
  • Assist in identifying root causes of equipment failures and recurring breakdowns.
  • Recommend improvements to equipment performance, maintenance procedures, and operational efficiency.
  • Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical training in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 5-10 years experience
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
  • Experience working with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing equipment, facility systems, and maintenance practices.
  • Understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance principles.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety practices and maintenance-related regulations.
  • Experience operating powered industrial equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Working Conditions
  • Manufacturing, maintenance shop, warehouse, and facility environments.
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, lifting, and reaching.
  • Exposure to machinery, electrical systems, compressed air systems, moving equipment, noise, and industrial environments.
  • May work at heights, in confined spaces, and around energized equipment following approved procedures.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds or more with assistance when required.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
