Job summary

Saint-Gobain is seeking an on-site maintenance technician in Houston to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on heavy plant equipment. You will troubleshoot mechanical and electrical failures, work with contractors, and ensure safe, reliable operations in a fast-paced industrial setting.

Ideal candidates have 5 years of experience, strong knowledge of motors, pumps, transformers, and control systems, and are proficient with PLCs and electrical circuits.

Qualifications

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of experience with a skills test.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance, including troubleshooting and repairs of industrial machinery.
  • Experience with motors, pumps, compressors, control panels, basic electrical, AC and 3-phase circuits, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Preferred but not required welding, cutting and fabrication; PLC knowledge is required.
  • Basic computer system literacy is required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment to support safe plant operations.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair failures on motors, pumps, conveyors, and related equipment.
  • Inspect equipment, identify maintenance needs, and complete repairs promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Work with on-site contractors and participate in safety trainings and JSA reviews.

Job description

Responsible for preventative maintenance tasks on industrial machinery, maintaining industrial equipment as necessary. Troubleshoot machine breakdown and repair situations and safely restore the machine to the proper operating condition. Must adhere to all company safety policies and JSAs while always performing tasks when on the premises. Must possess a thorough understanding of the operation and have acquired additional technical training, both classroom and practical, that will further enhance abilities that will meet individual and company needs.

Nature & Scope of Position:

  • Inspect non-operational equipment for component wear.
  • Replace non-operational components of equipment that hinder the equipment from operating efficiently.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems throughout the process.
  • Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance support, including troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment adjustments to maintain safe and efficient plant operations.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical components such as motors, pumps, compressors, sensors, control devices, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems.
  • Work with contractors onsite and with plant projects.
  • Knowledge and understanding of hydraulic/pneumatic theory.
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge and adequate skills to understand various plant processes.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform daily activities needed to support and comply with requirements surrounding plant maintenance activities.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment to support safe and reliable plant operations.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical failures on industrial machinery, motors, pumps, compressors, conveyors, and related plant equipment.
  • Inspect equipment, identify maintenance needs, and complete repairs in a timely manner to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Maintain, repair, and replace mechanical components, electrical components, sensors, control devices, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems as needed.
  • Must be able to dismantle and repair auxiliary equipment such as pumps, compressors, and pipe systems in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Will participate in training, craft skill improvements, and department safety topics.
  • Report all EH&S incidents – Injuries/Recordables, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage.
  • Participate in the development, understanding, and review of all position JSA’s.
Is this job for you ?
  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Preferred but not required general welding, cutting, and fabrication.
  • Automation equipment troubleshooting experience and PLC knowledge is required
  • Basic operating knowledge and understanding of computer systems is also required.
