This role offers 8-hour shifts with the potential for overtime, as needed. The individual selected for this role will be assigned to 2nd Shift (Monday through Friday from 2PM – 10:30PM CST).
The Elgin, IL Henkel manufacturing facility is looking for top talent to lead our facility to Best in Class performance levels and culture. The Maintenance Mechanic provides day-to-day electrical and mechanical support for large industrial machines in our manufacturing facility. This includes performing scheduled Preventative Maintenance, responding to down equipment by troubleshooting and making necessary repairs and completing scheduled work orders. This person is also responsible for developing and implementing standards within the area to gain efficiency improvements and production continuity.
What you´ll do
- Troubleshoot and maintain the electrical-mechanical machines in the manufacturing facility.
- Perform changeover activities on large mechanical equipment.
- Coordinate and work with other technicians in the daily support of serving and repairing manufacturing equipment.
- Document actions, parts, and time-usage to work orders.
- Identifies, advises, and implements safety improvements.
- Learn production equipment processes and operations to aid in machine troubleshooting and operation support.
- Performs basic troubleshooting for electrical problems with single phase and 3 phase motors, wiring, and controls.
- Decipher information from equipment manuals and schematics to troubleshoot various types of equipment malfunctions.
- Perform evaluations of new technologies with potential application as a new process or as a modification to existing equipment.
- Assist engineers, production managers, technologists, and leads in assessing the impact of equipment malfunction.
- Focus on Preventative Maintenance and 5S.
- Repair and maintain facility related equipment including plumbing, dock doors, dock levelers, etc.
- Repair and maintain mixing equipment (tanks, agitators, filters, pumps, meters, valves, cooling towers, etc.).
- Work closely with external contractors and ensure the quality of delivered services and products.
- Other duties, as assigned.
What makes you a good fit
Education & Professional Requirements
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
- An associate’s degree in Electronics, or an Electromechanical Technician or Industrial Mechanic certificate is preferred.
- Must have 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, high-speed preferred.
- Must have 2-5 years of experience and understanding of TPM methodologies and implementations.
- Must have at least 5 years of experience, training, or equivalent combination of education and experience as an Industrial Maintenance Technician and with Maintenance programs (such as TBM and Predictive).
- Must have an in-depth knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems maintenance.
- Must have knowledge of parametric and industrial control systems.
- Must have experience with mixing equipment (tanks, agitators, filters, pumps, meters, valves, cooling towers, etc.).
- Must have excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and regulations is a plus.
- Must have basic to intermediate-level computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Must have basic math skills.
- Basic to intermediate-level knowledge of Lean principles such as 5S, TPM, Root-Cause Analysis is highly desired.
- Must be meticulous in monitoring processes and maintaining accurate records.
- Must have a strong commitment to safety, with demonstrated investment in safety improvement activities.
- Must be able to follow all safety rules and PPE guidelines.
- Must be able to work with and around hazardous materials, chemicals, and equipment.
- Experience with SAP is a plus.
- Must have the ability to adapt and pivot quickly in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Must be well organized with a high attention for detail.
- Must have good problem-solving and time-management skills.
- Must have solid interpersonal skills.
- Must be an effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to adapt your communication style to different audiences, including active listening, clear presentation skills, and the capacity to provide and receive feedback.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must have the ability to work on the requested shift.
- Training rotations may occur on a different shift than the application states and can take 2-3 months to complete.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand continuously and walk frequently during the shift.
- Must be able to frequently climb ladders and stairs.
- Must be able to climb on and around equipment, which includes bending, stooping, standing, walking, crawling, twisting, kneeling, and reaching.
- Must be able to see and hear to visually and audibly troubleshoot equipment, acknowledge alarms, and perform inspections.
- Must be able to sustain repetitive movement of the upper and lower extremities.
- Must be able to grip, grasp, push, and pull with varying degrees of force.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance, 100 pounds with assistance, and push/pull up to 600 pounds with mechanical assistance.
- Must have dexterity in the hands for tool manipulation.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision. Corrective lenses are adequate for the job requirements.
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE including hearing protection, ANSI safety shoes, safety glasses, respirators, and all other required PPE.

The hourly pay rate for this role is $35 - $40, depending on experience. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
