Position: Millwright

Department: Chip Mill

Quercus Forest Products is a contractor for Domtar, providing services to meet Domtar's expectations in the art of chipping.

Purpose

The millwright's role is to maintain all mechanical and hydraulic systems in the chip mill to ensure safe, efficient, and productive operation.

Responsibilities

The millwright is responsible for minimizing downtime by inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing mill systems and assisting personnel to increase production through fabrication of various devices.

Specific Duties

• Monitor and troubleshoot all mill systems by sight, sound, and touch.
• Lubricate systems according to schedules and maintain lubrication records.
• Fabricate components such as chutes and conveyor sides from metal.
• Read and interpret prints, drawings, and manuals.
• Lock out equipment before maintenance.
• Lift and move heavy equipment using cranes.
• Replace bearings, sheaves, and cables.
• Maintain and install chain and sprocket drive systems.
• Align and tension belt drive systems.
• Repair hydraulic systems and maintain conveyor systems.
• Assist with chipper knife changes as needed.
• Communicate effectively with all mill personnel.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to manage maintenance tasks, climb into small spaces, see, hear, and feel mechanical system statuses, climb ladders up to 150 feet, lift objects up to 100 pounds, and communicate via radio.

Knowledge and Skills

The ideal candidate should have knowledge of electrical, air, and hydraulic lockout procedures, mechanical principles, troubleshooting, welding, and proper use of tools. Skills include troubleshooting by sensory perception and fabricating devices without prints or drawings.

Training

Approximately one month of on-the-job training is provided, especially for those with prior experience.
