Job summary

MSA Safety in Auburn, Maine, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic for the 1st shift (5:00 am–3:30 pm, Mon–Thu) at our Auburn manufacturing plant. The role focuses on maintaining production equipment and supporting building systems to ensure safe, reliable operations.

You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot downtime, document work, and contribute to continuous improvement of equipment and facilities for high performance and safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required.
  • 1–5 years of mechanical experience.
  • Physically able to stand, reach, bend, stoop, and walk continuously.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals.
  • Basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

  • Effectively maintain production equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and service on machines.
  • Assist with machine maintenance and improvement of facilities systems, buildings, and equipment.
  • Respond rapidly to machine downtime to minimize impact.
  • Stay current with machine maintenance best practices and continuously improve techniques.
  • Repair broken machines quickly and efficiently; prepare reports documenting work performed.
  • Perform general repairs and routine maintenance on building systems.
  • Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and maintain shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Assist with facility projects as needed.
  • Ensure all equipment is in safe operating condition and all safety concerns are reported and addressed.
  • Maintain machine guarding and safety risk reduction during maintenance activity and operator use of equipment/facilities.
  • Ensure machine guarding meets guidelines and regulations and pursue plant safety risk elimination.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Shift Details

1st Shift – 5:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Thursday (overtime as business needs dictate).

Pay

Starting pay $23.00/hr – $30.00/hr depending upon experience. Pay grade HR999.

Location

Auburn, Maine manufacturing plant – Maintenance Mechanic supporting building and manufacturing equipment.

Requirements
  • High school diploma.
  • 1–5 years of mechanical experience.
  • Mechanically inclined with strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Physically able to stand, reach, bend, stoop, and walk continuously throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Logical thinker with ability to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Willingness to work overtime as necessary.
  • Ability to work within a team and independently to meet goals.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals.
  • Basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing position.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems on automated equipment and willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of stitching operations and sewing machine maintenance.
  • Ability to read schematics.
  • Knowledge of driving production to meet KPIs.
