Job summary

Tyson Foods in San Lorenzo, CA, is seeking a Maintenance Manager I to supervise maintenance of production equipment, buildings, and utilities, including ammonia systems, ensuring safe, reliable plant operations.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager II or Plant Manager, you will lead a maintenance team, drive plant improvements, manage the SAP CMMS, control parts inventory, and monitor performance while upholding safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 6+ years of maintenance experience.
• Standard computer skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; some public speaking skills.
• Industrial maintenance in electrical, refrigeration, hydraulics or mechanical fields.
• Supervisory experience over a team performing related tasks.
• Domestic travel 1–5 trips per year.
• Must reside in the United States; sponsorship not available.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and executing plant improvements and expansions.
• Ensure maintenance personnel are proficient in operating equipment and possess necessary skills; implement training programs.
• Establish and maintain a safe workplace, complying with safety and regulatory standards (OSHA/PSM).
• Continuously monitor plant equipment to minimize downtime; maintain refrigeration and wastewater systems.
• Establish and manage SAP CMMS for work orders and spare parts inventory.
• Analyze maintenance data and recommend improvements to plant operations.
• Ensure maintenance staff are trained, equipped, and motivated to carry out programs safely.
• Administer the maintenance budget and purchasing of parts and supplies.
• Maintain a system to track asset utilization, costs, and PM compliance.

Reporting to: Maintenance Manager II OR Plant Manager

SUMMARY

This facility is part of our Prepared Foods business unit. The Maintenance Manager I is responsible for supervising the maintenance of production equipment buildings and utilities including ammonia compressors offal and Wastewater Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Plant Improvement and Expansion

• Assist in planning and executing plant improvements and expansions.

Training and Development

• Ensure all maintenance personnel are proficient in operating equipment and possess necessary maintenance skills.
• Implement training programs to keep staff updated on operating equipment and maintenance practices.

Safety and Compliance

• Establish and maintain a safe workplace environment, complying with all safety and regulatory standards.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, OSHA, PSM, and environmental regulations at local, state, and federal levels.
• Communicate and enforce safety programs effectively.

Equipment Monitoring and Maintenance

• Continuously monitor plant equipment and systems to minimize unplanned downtime and promptly address issues.
• Maintain refrigeration and wastewater systems to meet regulatory guidelines.

Maintenance Management System

• Establish and manage a computerized maintenance management system (SAP) for tracking work orders and maintaining an adequate inventory of replacement parts.

Data Analysis and Recommendations

• Analyze maintenance data to identify areas for improvement in plant operations and maintenance processes.
• Make recommendations for enhancing plant operations based on data analysis.

Personnel Management

• Ensure maintenance personnel are properly trained, equipped, and motivated to carry out maintenance programs efficiently and safely.
• Implement the Coastal Training system for necessary skillsets and provide required resources.

Budget Administration

• Administer the maintenance budget and ensure financial goals are achieved.
• Monitor and administer the purchasing and use of parts, equipment, materials, and supplies in the maintenance department.

Performance Tracking

• Maintain a tracking system to analyze key maintenance parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance costs, and PM compliance.

REQUIREMENTS

• Education: Bachelor s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience: 6 plus years of maintenance experience.
• Computer Skills: Standard computer skills.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; some public speaking skills.
• Special Skills: Industrial Maintenance in fields such as electrical refrigeration hydraulics or mechanical.
• Supervisory: Responsible for supervising a group of personnel who perform similar or interrelated tasks.
• Travel: 1-5 domestic trips per year.
• Must reside in the United States to be considered.
