Job summary

H.B. Fuller in Northbrook, IL is seeking a Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance team and drive safe, reliable production equipment through preventive/predictive programs.

You will oversee personnel, coordinate with production management, and manage contractors to ensure uptime and quality. The role requires strong electrical/electromechanical skills and experience with motors, gearboxes, and PLCs.

Qualifications

  • Must have bachelor-level engineering or equivalent with 5+ years in maintenance management or 7–10 years maintenance experience via vocational/associate path.
  • Experience with electromechanical systems, motors, gearboxes, PLCs, and downtime analysis.
  • Strong ability to read schematics and safety instructions and apply them on the floor.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and execute maintenance projects with the team.
  • Maintain and update the preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Report non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
  • Issue purchase orders for maintenance projects.
  • Evaluate maintenance staff for training needs.
  • Plan and oversee repair and installation activities.
  • Identify critical parts and manage inventory.
  • Maintain maintenance logs and vendor relationships.

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring safe and proper maintenance and repair of production equipment. This position will oversee all aspects of the maintenance department including managing personnel, preventative/predictive maintenance programs, spearheading maintenance projects and coordinating with Production Team Management. This person should be a well‑rounded individual who is self‑started looking to lead a team of professionals.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Identify and execute maintenance projects with the maintenance team.
  • Maintain and update the preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Report non-conformances and, with support, correct them.
  • Issue all purchase order requests for maintenance projects.
  • Evaluate maintenance support staff for training needs.
  • Plan and oversee repair and installation activities.
  • Identify critical spare parts, monitor inventory, and re‑order as necessary.
  • Keep maintenance logs.
  • Manage relationships with contractors and outside service providers.
Minimum Requirements
  • Previous Maintenance Management experience or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Bachelor degree in electronics, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or similar field and at least 5 years of experience OR
  • Successful completion of a vocational school or an associates degree in similar fields and 7 years of experience. Or 10 years of experience in maintenance as a technician or mechanic. Preferred.
  • Experience with induction heaters, HVAC, electric motors, forklift repair, compressor repair, process cooling tower experience, dust collection preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with electromechanical machine adjustments, motor speeds, feed rates, and identification of machine problems resulting in downtime required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues in the absence of schematics or electrical drawings.
  • Fabrication skills and general welding & brazing skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, schematics, blueprints and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Significant experience with induction heaters, electric motors, gearboxes, drives, PLCs, wiring, compressors, process cooling loops or other production equipment.
  • Significant experience troubleshooting electrical issues in the absence of schematics or electrical drawings.
  • Significant experience with electromechanical machine adjustments, motor speeds, feed rates, and identification of machine problems resulting in downtime.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location. The salary for this role is $100,000 - $125,000.
