Job summary

Daybreak Foods in Wisconsin is looking for a maintenance leader to organize and manage the day-to-day functions of the Maintenance department, delegating tasks and supervising preventive maintenance and special projects. You will ensure safety, train new staff, and optimize PM programs across all facilities.

The role requires strong supervisory experience, high mechanical aptitude, and the ability to manage inventories and vendor relationships.

Qualifications

  • High school education required; technical training preferred.
  • Must have or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Minimal 5 years maintenance experience.
  • Minimal 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical drives, gearboxes and equipment movement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day maintenance operations including staffing, reporting and compliance.
  • Plan, assign, and prioritize work of Maintenance Technicians.
  • Identify and implement improvements in repair methods.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance programs for all equipment.
  • Recruit, hire and train maintenance staff in coordination with HR.
  • Ensure safety and GMP compliance across the department.
  • Develop and maintain parts inventory and manage purchasing.
  • Produce weekly management reports as requested.

Job description

Summary

Under the direction of the General Manager, organizes and manages the day‑to‑day function of the Maintenance department by delegating and supervising the completion of all preventive maintenance, special projects and daily maintenance needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the day‑to‑day operations of the maintenance department including staffing, reporting and compliance. Plan, assign, and prioritize work assignments of Maintenance Technicians.
  • Respond to ongoing challenges by recommending improvements in repair methods.
  • Identify areas of operational conflicts with departmental procedures and suggest alternative solutions.
  • Produce and submit weekly reports as requested by management.
  • Purchase parts and source according to company guidelines while adhering to purchasing requirements.
  • Implement and enforce department best practices and procedures as prescribed by Plant Manager.
  • Work in conjunction with Human Resources and department management in the recruiting, hiring and training of new maintenance employees.
  • Ensure all company safety practices, policies, and procedures are followed by all employees as prescribed by management.
  • Maintain and write standard operating procedures for the maintenance department.
  • Perform advanced maintenance actions such as building repair, rolling stock repair, automation control calibration and repair, etc.
  • Maintain the preventative maintenance programs for all equipment and facilities.
  • Requisition materials and supplies such as tools, equipment, or replacement parts.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate and organized parts inventory.
  • Compute estimates and research costs of materials, labor, and/or outside contractors.
  • Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
  • Supervise maintenance personnel and follow up on employees' evaluations, expectations, and results.

Education and/or Experience
  • High School Education
  • Technical Training (Preferred)
  • Must have or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Minimal 5 Years Maintenance Experience
  • Minimal 2 Years Supervisory Experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Understand and operate environmental controls, alarm systems, backup power, and other technology.
  • Ability to track and document all activities with correct forms and paperwork.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical drives, gearboxes and general movement of equipment and materials.
  • Strong knowledge of three‑phase 480/240 VAC motors and circuits; 110 VAC control circuits and motor starters with overload protection.
  • High level of mechanical aptitude with plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
Physical Demands

Stand and walk constantly; grip, grasp, push, pull, reach, bend, stoop, lift up to 10 pounds frequently; sit, climb, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment

Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and water, and chemicals. Temperature is regulated for operations standards. Cooler temperatures occur in specific areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Proper personal protective equipment will be required during certain working conditions. Employees are required to comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's) due to working in a food manufacturing environment (hairnets, clean clothes, etc.).
