Job description

In 1982, we began making preserves in our Northern Michigan storefront kitchen. After all these years, our skilled crew still prepares fruit by hand and cooks with care in small-batch copper kettles. We work directly with a dedicated group of Michigan farmers and foragers who grow and gather the unique varieties of fruit we love, prized over generations for unparalleled taste and character. Our small, family-owned company exists, to find, capture, and preserve flavors you simply won’t find anywhere else.

About the Role

This is a hands-on leadership role for a seasoned maintenance professional with a manufacturing background. You'll split your time between the production floor, diagnosing and repairing equipment when it goes down, and the desk, where you'll build and run a strong preventative maintenance program, coordinate with outside repair partners, and keep our safety documentation current. You'll also be the person who looks at how we work and spots where an equipment investment could help us run better.

Your primary focus will be our production kitchen. You'll occasionally oversee repairs in our warehouse and retail locations.

  • Build, manage and continually improve a preventative maintenance program, including schedules, logs and parts inventory

  • Evaluate equipment performance and recommend upgrades or new equipment where an investment would improve efficiency, safety or capacity
  • Oversee fire safety and facility compliance, including inspections, extinguishers, suppression systems and related recordkeeping
  • Write, maintain and update safety manuals and maintenance SOPs, and make sure staff understand them
  • Support food safety and sanitation standards as they relate to equipment and the facility
  • Handle occasional repairs in the warehouse and general maintenance at the Petoskey and Harbor Springs stores
  • Work closely with the Production Kitchen Manager to plan maintenance around production schedules and keep the kitchen running smoothly

  • Previous experience in a maintenance lead or management role
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Proven experience running a preventative maintenance program
  • Working knowledge of fire safety, OSHA requirements and lockout/tagout procedures

  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between our Petoskey-area locations
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in a production environment that can be hot, wet and noisy
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary depending on experience
  • 30% employee discount on American Spoon products
