Job description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for building a culture with an unconditional stance on safety. The position is accountable to deliver stable and reliable plant operations with a focus on safety, quality, productivity, customer focus and cost.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership, training, development and engagement of all Pipe Plant maintenance employees. In addition, they must demonstrate a proven track record of leadership and sustained performance associated with plant maintenance programs and operations with proven experience reliability programs with operational metrics. Excellent interpersonal skills, leadership, driving change and achieving results through employee engagement are required.

The position reports to the Newark Maintenance Leader.

Responsibilities
1. Live the Safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities.
Metrics
  • Implement a personal safety action plan and review with leader
  • Achievement of personal safety goals.
2. Development and Execution of Plant Maintenance Strategy

The strategy will consist of the following:

  • Safety for an Injury Free Work Environment
  • Determining Critical Outcomes for the Plant & Maintenance Department
  • People Strategy including talent development
  • Operational Excellence through productivity, cash flow and waste elimination
  • Sustainability and Environmental Compliance / Stewardship
  • Customer Service and Satisfaction
Metrics
  • Safety Metrics – RIR, first aids, near misses, SAFE and Critical 6
  • Customer complaints including claim dollars
  • Individual Goals and Objectives
3. Directing Maintenance Operations
Will have the responsibility to:
  • Provide effective vision. leadership and vision to plant personnel
  • Provide an injury free environment
  • Engage employees and create a work environment in which employees become compelled to commit to their organization and its bottom line feeling of pride and job ownership
  • Ensure effective deployment of employee/labor relations practices
  • Control/Reduce Operating Cost. Identify opportunities to enhance efficiencies, streamline processes and leverage resources in order to reduce cost.
  • Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis on chronic maintenance issues or repairs
  • Establish a World Class Housekeeping and 5S Environment
  • Execute effective PM and work order programs using predictive and preventive technologies
  • Develop solutions that improve reliability
  • Respond to unplanned downtime events with a sense of urgency with attention to safety and detail

  • Safety Metrics – RIR, first aids, near misses, SAFE and Critical 6
  • % closure on safety incident corrective actions within 21 days

4. Leading and Developing Talent
Will have responsibility to:
  • Create and sustain a culture where talent is developed through effective performance management, talent evaluation and utilization of people

Job Requirements
Experience:
  • A minimum of 7 years of industrial manufacturing/maintenance assignments and experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree preferably in Engineering, Science, Operations or Business.
Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Able to engage and care for others starting with Safety
  • Leadership skills and experience gained from on the job and formal training in team leadership, facilitation, problem solving, diversity, safety, waste elimination and lean manufacturing
  • Six Sigma Certification and Lean Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Strong process, engineering and technical abilities
  • Experience in dealing with union operations and experience in contract negotiations
  • Business and financial acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and turn strategy into action
  • Knowledge of industrial utility systems
  • Able to achieve results fast both individually and through teams
