Owens Corning Summit plant in Illinois seeks a Maintenance Leader to champion safety, reliability, and cost efficiency. PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Maintenance Leader plays a critical role in fostering a culture that prioritizes safety without compromise. This position is accountable for ensuring stable and reliable plant operations, with a strong emphasis on safety, talent development, quality, productivity, and cost efficiency.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of leadership and sustained performance in maintenance operations and programs. They will be responsible for leading, training, developing, and engaging all maintenance team members to drive operational excellence.

Success in this role requires exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills, the ability to lead change effectively, and a commitment to achieving results through active employee engagement

Reports to:Summit Site Leader and will be a member of the Plant Leadership Team.

Span of Control:The Summit Roofing and Asphalt plant has approximately 120 employees. The Maintenance Leader will lead a team of approximately 18hourly employees.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Maintenance Leader is expected to model and uphold Owens Corning's Safety Stand, consistently demonstrating an unwavering commitment to safety in all aspects of operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Championing a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work environment, while cultivating a culture where safety is a core value.
  • Developing and implementing risk assessments and safe work plans for critical tasks.
  • Leading and supporting safety initiatives and processes aimed at achieving zero incidents and recordable injuries.
  • Training and developing employees to ensure they can perform their roles safely and effectively.
  • Participating in work area self-inspections and incident investigations, and recommending corrective actions to continuously improve workplace safety.
Development and Execution of Plant Maintenance Strategy
  • Driving a culture of safety excellence to achieve an injury-free work environment.
  • Establishing clear performance objectives for both the plant and the maintenance department.
  • Ensuring alignment between the maintenance strategy and broader business and operational goals.
  • Leading continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and overall plant performance.
  • Building and executing a people strategy focused on talent development, training, and engagement.
  • Managing the maintenance budget, including labor, repairs, and capital replacements.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to identify and implement process improvements that eliminate waste, enhance safety, reduce costs, increase capacity, and improve productivity.
Directing Maintenance Operations
  • Driving continuous improvement in safety, housekeeping, and operational discipline.
  • Leading the Summit Maintenance Department toward best-in-class safety and equipment performance.
  • Ensuring effective deployment of employee and labor relations practices.
  • Identifying and executing opportunities to optimize efficiency, streamline processes, and reduce operating costs.
  • Conducting Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) on recurring maintenance issues.
  • Implementing and sustaining preventive and predictive maintenance programs, including effective use of work orders and technologies.
  • Developing and executing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Reliability Work Process (RWP) plans.
  • Maintaining a strong connection to daily operations to understand priorities and respond effectively.
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with production and technical teams to support shared goals.
Leading and Developing Talent
  • Building and leading effective teams that are aligned on goals, collaborate to drive plant performance, and foster a winning mindset.
  • Creating an open, trusting, and inclusive environment that encourages active listening, mutual respect, and a culture of achievement and enjoyment.
  • Communicating clearly and consistently across the plant to ensure employees have the information, context, and direction needed to succeed.
  • Ensuring team members possess the skills, capabilities, and resources required to perform their roles safely and effectively.

  • Partnering with shift leaders and other stakeholders to ensure maintenance personnel are well-trained and certified to meet the full scope of job expectations.
Total Productive Maintenance
  • Assist in all plant TPM initiatives.
  • Continue to use TPM methodology to gain a better understanding of the equipment/process.
  • Identify and participate proactively in learning opportunities and develops expertise in those areas.
  • Create and develop the team and pillar strategy for Preventative Maintenance
  • Align PM Pillar to achieve plant and business KPI's and KAI's.
  • Utilize TPM tools such as break down analysis and PM sheets, indicators such as MTTR, MTBF,
  • Work to achieve zero injuries, zero defects and zero losses.
  • Design TPM PM strategy to achieve zero breakdowns

JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • A minimum of 5 years of industrial manufacturing/maintenance assignments and experience
  • A Bachelor's degree preferably in Engineering, Science, Operations or Business
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Able to engage and care for people starting with Safety
  • Experience leading Reliability Work Process ( RWP) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) preferred

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Be exposed to temperature extremes
  • Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that maybe uncomfortable
  • Be exposed to asphalt smells
  • Able to wear applicable PPE for 12 hours
