Job summary

PTI is seeking a Maintenance Manager in Michigan to lead the safe, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance of all production equipment, tooling, utilities, and facilities. You will develop maintenance personnel and contractors, implement reliability practices, and collaborate with Production, Tooling, Quality, and Engineering to maximize uptime and protect assets.

The role requires directing maintenance activities, prioritizing work, approving overtime, and enforcing PTI policies.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing.
• 3 years of maintenance supervision experience preferred.
• Injection molding/plastics/automotive manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment and automation systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate safe, reliable maintenance and repairs of all equipment.
• Prioritize work, assign staff and contractors, and authorize overtime as needed.
• Coach and discipline maintenance staff per PTI policy.
• Approve routine parts, services, and contractor expenses within delegated authority.
• Escalate significant risks to the Plant Manager and coordinate capital improvements.

Job description

JOB PURPOSE

The Maintenance Manager leads and coordinates the safe, reliable, and cost-effective installation, maintenance, and repair of all company machinery, production equipment, tooling support systems, utilities, buildings, grounds, and site infrastructure. This position manages and develops maintenance personnel and contractors, establishes effective maintenance and reliability practices, and works closely with Production, Tooling, Quality, and Engineering to maximize equipment availability, support product quality and delivery, protect company assets, and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and all applicable regulatory requirements.

Job Purpose

• Stop equipment, utilities, or work activities that present safety, quality, environmental, or asset risk and authorize safe return to service.
• Prioritize work, assign employees and contractors, adjust schedules, and authorize overtime or emergency response within company policy and approval limits.
• Coach and discipline employees in accordance with PTI policy and recommend hiring, promotion, transfer, or termination actions.
• Approve routine parts, services, and contractor expenses within delegated authority and recommend capital repairs, replacements, and reliability improvements.
• Require appropriate medical evaluation following an injury or suspected exposure and escalated significant equipment, staffing, contractor, compliance, or facility risks to the Plant Manager.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• Strong background in industrial maintenance within a high-volume manufacturing environment; injection molding experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience leading maintenance technicians, prioritizing workload, and supporting production uptime.
• Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance programs, equipment troubleshooting, spare-parts management, and maintenance planning.
• Working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and controls systems.
• Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment, robotics, auxiliary equipment, and automated manufacturing systems.
• Ability to analyze recurring equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Manage outside contractors, equipment vendors, facility repairs, and capital improvement projects.
• Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where equipment uptime, safety, quality, and production schedules are critical.
• Minimum 7 years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing with 3 years of maintenance supervisory experience preferred.
• Previous experience in injection molding, plastics manufacturing, automotive, medical-device manufacturing, or another highly automated manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.

Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting equipment:

• Injection molding machines, including hydraulic, electric, and hybrid presses
• Industrial robots and automation systems
• Material handling systems, loaders, dryers, blenders, and conveying systems
• Chillers, cooling towers, thermolators, and process water systems
• Air compressors and plant compressed-air systems
• Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Electrical systems, including 480V industrial equipment
• PLCs, HMIs, sensors, servo systems, and motor controls
• Conveyors, assembly equipment, secondary operations equipment, and automated work cells
• Facility systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire-protection systems, and general building infrastructure
• Experience with preventive maintenance systems, spare parts inventory, equipment history, and maintenance KPI tracking is also preferred.
