Position Overview
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance operations of the plant, ensuring the functionality, safety, and efficiency of all machinery, processing equipment, mobile fleet, and infrastructure within the manufacturing environment. This role involves managing a team of maintenance technicians, scheduling preventative maintenance, troubleshooting equipment failures, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Supervise and direct the activities of the maintenance team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and operational guidelines. Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all plant machinery, manufacturing systems, forklifts, conveyor belts, kilns, and other equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose equipment malfunctions and oversee or perform repairs promptly to ensure minimal disruption to plant operations. Coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs when needed.
- Facility Management: Oversee the maintenance of the building infrastructure, including lighting, plumbing, and electrical systems. Ensure the manufacturing environment is maintained at optimal conditions.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all equipment and maintenance activities comply with OSHA regulations and company safety standards. Implement safety training for the maintenance team and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Inventory & Supplies: Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and supplies needed for repairs and maintenance to avoid downtime in production. Ensure timely ordering and stock replenishment.
- Vendor Coordination: Manage relationships with external vendors, including negotiating contracts and overseeing service agreements for outsourced maintenance and repairs.
- Documentation: Keep detailed records of all maintenance activities, including equipment service logs, repairs, and inspections. Generate reports on equipment performance, downtime, and maintenance costs.
- Process Improvement: Continuously assess maintenance processes and equipment performance to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Emergency Response: Coordinate emergency repairs and ensure prompt response to unexpected equipment failures or safety hazards. Be on call for urgent maintenance needs outside regular working hours.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree or certification in industrial maintenance, mechanical engineering, or a related field is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a maintenance, technical, or engineering role, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
Skills
- Strong mechanical and technical skills, including knowledge of electrical and automation, including drives, motors, VFDs, and PLCs.
- Skilled in metal fabrication, cutting, and welding.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair a variety of manufacturing equipment.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage a team effectively. Ability to communicate with people across all organizational levels.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards (OSHA, DEP, EPA, etc.).
- Proficiency in maintenance management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Ability to read and interpret documents and drawings.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in an environment with dust and noise, and around equipment with higher than ambient temperatures.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, and climb ladders for extended periods.
