Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. is seeking a skilled maintenance technician to service and repair mechanical and hydraulic components on production machines.

You will work with lathes, milling machines, and other shop tools, reading blueprints and ISO drawings to fabricate parts and align components precisely. The role requires reading and interpreting specifications, performing preventative maintenance, and operating forklifts as needed in a heavy manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 3+ years related experience or equivalent.
  • Experience reading blueprints/ISO drawings and fabricating parts.
  • Ability to align pumps/motors within tight tolerances and use precision tools.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Repairs and maintains mechanical and hydraulic components of production machines and equipment such as metal fabricating machine tools, material handling system, and automated lubrication system by performing the following duties.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works with industry-specific and high complex precision machines including but not limited to conveyors, lathes, mills, grinders, saws, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, pumps, gears, bearings, compressors etc.
  • Uses precision leveling and alignment tools to measure angles, material thickness and small distances with calipers, squares, micrometers, and other tools.
  • Fits bearings, align gears and wheels, attach motors, and connect belts according to manufacturer’s blueprints and drawings.
  • Assist with the dismantling of machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
  • Fabricates and installs parts on equipment and machinery by measuring, cutting, and drilling.
  • Assist with the unloading, inspecting, moving, and putting of equipment into position using cranes, hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
  • Uses rigging and hoisting devices such as chokers, chain falls and hand winches to move equipment / materials into place.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance on conveyors, lathes, mills, grinders, saws, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, pumps.
  • Experience with lathes, mills, and broaching, general shop equipment (drill presses. vertical/horizontal band saws, hydraulic presses) measuring and hand tools.
  • Ability to read and fabricate parts from blueprints and ISO drawings.
  • Able to align a pump and motor within 5 thousandths of an inch.
  • Operate mobile equipment fork trucks and man-lifts.

  • The successful applicant must be willing to work shift work and various shifts. No shift preference is guaranteed.
  • Prefer knowledge of Lathe, Mills, Cut Off Saw and Drill Press equipment. Machining, Hydraulics and Pneumatics experience are a plus.
REQUIRED TESTING
  • Written Machine Tool Repair Skill Assessment (40 questions) 80% is passing.
  • Practical Exam upon successful completion of the Written Skills Assessment
EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or GED and 3+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
EXPERIENCE
  • Relevant work experience operating machine tools, including numerical control and manual lathes, and machining centers.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints, interpreting specifications, and understanding machine instructions.
WORK CONDITIONS
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use arms and hands; climb and balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; and crawl.
  • The employee must be able to read, listen, and give verbal instructions.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close up and distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must also be able to work in close cramped areas.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in high places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
  • Noise levels are high and frequently require the use of hearing protection.
  • The employee must be able to work in extremely cold or hot conditions.
HOURS

1st 6am – 2pm, 2nd 2pm – 10pm, 3rd 10pm – 6am. Daily and weekend overtime as needed
