City of La Mirada is seeking a maintenance worker to perform custodial and grounds maintenance across civic facilities, parks, and athletic venues. Responsibilities include mowing, irrigation work, minor carpentry and repairs, and assisting in event setups.
Qualifications include a high school diploma, valid CA driver license, and completion of CPR/First Aid within six months. Work schedule may adjust; some overtime or after-hours calls are required.

Work schedule: Monday to Thursday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Fridays 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with alternate Fridays off. However, work schedule may adjust to fit the needs of the department.
Under general supervision, performs manual and semi-skilled maintenance work at assigned job sites including streets, parkways, civic facilities, athletic facilities, aquatics facilities, and parks.

Knowledge of: The use and maintenance of basic power and hand tools, equipment, materials, and methods used in building and ground maintenance work. Related work hazards and safety procedures. Operation of mower, trimmer, irrigation, and carpentry equipment, and heavy-duty equipment such as backhoe and tractor.
Ability to: Use and maintain basic power equipment, materials, hand tools, and maintenance and automotive equipment. Perform manual labor in a variety of weather conditions and perform work requiring physical strength, dexterity, and endurance. Read, write, and carry out oral and written instructions in English. Meet the physical requirements stated in the City’s Job Function Analysis for the position, including ability to lift up to 75 lbs. Operate a motor vehicle safely. Exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact with staff and the public. Utilize quality customer service skills and techniques. Work different shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays and participate in the emergency call-out rotation.
Experience: One year of work experience in building maintenance, custodial maintenance, street maintenance, landscape maintenance, construction trades or related field is desired.
Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent is required. Course work from an accredited institution in building repair, public works, or a related field is highly desirable.
Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License is required. Possession of a valid CPR, AED, First Aid certificate is required within the first six months of employment.
Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range. Consideration and approval for a salary higher than the first step is done on a case-by-case basis.
