PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, maintain, modify, repair, and install heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment throughout the district. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all HVAC systems in district facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or GED
Certification / License:
EPA Refrigerant certification, Technician Type I and II
Preferred Texas State HVAC License
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
Knowledge of electricity sufficient to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical control circuits.
Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and recommend repair procedures.
Ability to analyze building heating and air conditioning equipment and recommend modifications to achieve better operation or energy savings.
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Electrical measuring and testing equipment; welding equipment; hand tools; power tools; hoist; plumbing tools and equipment including pipe bender, propane torch; heavy equipment including forklift, trencher, backhoe; light truck or van.
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.
Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; may work on rooftops; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; may work irregular and prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.

Minimum Experience:
Four years at the journeyman work level and progressive experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning, air handling, and control systems; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
