Summary: Responsible for completing all assigned duties related to all aspects of building housekeeping (inside and out) of the building(s) to which he/she is assigned. This position is part time, Saturday & Sunday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Essential Employees: All Block Institute Employees have been deemed Essential Employees by New York State. This means that if there are requirements for Essential Employees to show up to work during emergencies or times of crisis, all Block employees are among those mandated to do so. (Subject to any other Executive Order to the contrary.)

The scope of an Essential Employees’ tasks during an emergency situation will vary from situation to situation, may include, but not be limited to: physically showing up to a designated work site as instructed, even if other businesses are closed; completion of all work where possible online, including documentation of services, evaluations, billing, etc.; attendance at Microsoft Team Meetings (or other online communication platforms) as invited; and completion of any assignments or training modules as instructed, and working remotely where possible.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities:

  • Follow a set schedule to sweep, mop, wax, and vacuum assigned areas, including classrooms, group rooms, hallways, offices, bathrooms, cafeteria, lounge, and multipurpose rooms.
  • Regularly clean and disinfect doors, handles, railings, fixtures, garbage cans (weekly wash), windows, vents, pictures, and drinking fountains.
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas and maintain dry floors, placing caution signs where necessary.
  • Clean all bathrooms daily, including toilets, urinals, sinks, stall walls/doors, tiles, and dispensers.
  • Empty and sanitize all trash cans and wastebaskets, adhering to recycling laws.
  • Maintain locker rooms by disinfecting showers and lockers.
  • Ensure all rooms are stocked with essential supplies (paper towels, toilet paper, soap, deodorizers, garbage bags).
  • Maintain the exterior of the building through sweeping, raking, trash pickup, and shoveling pathways in winter.
  • Report any safety hazards to a supervisor and secure hazardous areas until repairs are completed.
  • Maintain dumpsters and perform basic/light repairs under supervision.
  • Move furniture as needed.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Maintain a professional work atmosphere and demonstrate appropriate interactions with coworkers and individuals served.
  • Attend required in-service training and comply with all policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Master any software systems and technology used by the agency.
  • Maintain punctuality and ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. They must carry buckets with water, move vacuum cleaners from floor to floor (as applicable). They may at times need to stand on a step stool to wash windows, remove or replace curtains for laundering, or dusting high locations. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The environment in the residence setting offers no particular, unusual situations, although some sites may have stairs that must be navigated. The position requires the ability to work in an occasionally busy and noisy residence with people coming in and out throughout the day. Due to the nature of the position, the Housekeeper must encounter chemical cleansers (i.e. to clean floors, bathroom tiles, laundering curtains, carpet cleaners, etc.) and must use appropriate protections and take appropriate care per manufacturer instructions and warnings.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 Year Experience Preferred; A valid NYS Drivers’ License is a plus
  • Proficiency in English is required to perform essential job functions, including preparing written reports, understanding safety instructions, and communicating with clients or team members.
